With great sorrow, John Brigham, my beloved father, and Infuse Organics cornerstone, passed away on September 30. His confidence in me and unwavering support of my business gave me the faith to pursue my dreams.
When I told my dad that I did not want to accept my admission into grad school for PT and that I instead wanted to start a skin and body care business, he never batted an eye to my decision, only encouraging with absolute faith. Many, many people discouraged my life path, but he always told me to forge ahead with happiness, no matter what.
I worked with my dad for many years as a handyman, starting when I was 17. When I left to go out west at 22, he cried with me in the garage, his happy place and where he passed- he told me I had to go pursue happiness, no matter if “your parents tell you it’s a bad idea.” I loved that about him; he was the most selfless person I’ve ever met.
I met Scott, my husband, the day I got to Wyoming, the most beautiful man I had ever seen. I loved him instantly. The beginnings of our were relationship tumultuous, and at one point I left him- he called my dad, and asked him to talk with me. My dad called me and said he thought I should forgive him, so I did.
Scott and I traveled around rock climbing and skiing for three years, and we would come back for months at a time to Ohio to work in the handyman business. Once when we were on our way back to Ohio, I discovered I was pregnant with our first daughter, Luella, now 14. We decided to stay in Ohio, getting a place in German Village, a neighborhood in Columbus with cobblestone streets and quaint brick buildings.
A few months into my pregnancy, my mother left my father. He was deeply sad, lonely, at a loss. He asked us to move in to his house with him, and we were unsure at first. Then, Luella was born and postpartum set in. Our lease was up on our German Village house, and I told Scott I would like to try living with my dad, even for a short time. He agreed. My dad was the kindest, most amiable, deferential person, which would show itself in many ways over the coming years…
