A new way to think about stuttering therapy ♥️
Our choices as caregivers today can make a world of difference for our children and adolescents who stutter.
When parents demand fluency or tools to “fix” stuttering, they may rupture relationship and safety, potentially leading to a long journey of trauma for their children.
So speech therapists have an opportunity to walk alongside parents to encourage, support, and nurture their children, helping them prevent trauma connected to the burden of suppressing their authentic voices.
By cultivating relationship and safety in the communicative environment at home, caregivers can ensure that stuttering does not become a shame-inducing experience for their children.
If you’re ready to make your home a supportive and encouraging environment but don’t know how to do it, we have a resource to get you started!
“Nurturing and Empowering Your Child Who Stutters” is our free short film dedicated to helping caregivers provide a positive environment for their children who stutter.
