Kids with ADHD often struggle with emotional regulation. That means big reactions, meltdowns, or mood swings aren’t just willful—they’re often about lagging skills.

Here’s how you can help:
✅ Stay calm and connected in the moment
✅ Teach coping strategies during non-emotional times
✅ Consider therapy (like CBT) if emotional intensity is frequent or disruptive

👉 In Episode 15 of ADHD Connect, I talk about when therapy makes sense, and how to know if it’s the right next step for your child.

🌪 Tip for Tough ADHD Moments 🌪

When your child is melting down, it’s tempting to focus on stopping the behavior right now. But here’s a quick reframe:

💡 Instead of asking, “How do I get control?”
Try asking, “How can I help my child regain control of themselves?”

This shift takes you out of a power struggle and into coaching mode—where your child can actually learn skills for calming down and regulating.

✅ Responding this way keeps the connection intact.
✅ It models the regulation you want them to build.
✅ And it helps you stay grounded in your values, even in the heat of the moment.

📚 Back to School: Is It the Jitters… or Something More? 🧠

As routines settle and classrooms come alive, you might start noticing your child…

✨ Struggling to get out the door on time
✨ Forgetting homework (again)
✨ Daydreaming instead of focusing
✨ Melting down after school from sheer exhaustion
✨ Getting frequent reminders from teachers to sit still or stay quiet

These can all be typical back-to-school bumps… but they can also be early signs of ADHD.

This time of year often brings ADHD to light—not because school "causes" it, but because the demands for attention, organization, and self-regulation suddenly go way up.

💡 If you're seeing consistent struggles across settings—not just at home or school—it might be time to dig a little deeper.

You’re not alone in wondering. And wondering doesn’t mean labeling—it means understanding.

✨ Let’s replace panic with perspective.
✨ Let’s replace blame with curiosity.
✨ Let’s replace “What’s wrong?” with “What’s going on?”

Back-to-school is a perfect time to start asking the right questions—and to build the right kind of support.

I'm here to help you do just that. Use this ADHD screening tool to start: https://tishtaylor.com/add-adhd-screening-tool/
