🍕 Making a difference, one pizza pie at a time! Stroke survivors and their caregivers traded their usual support group meeting for a hands-on pizza-making class at King Arthur Baking Company in Norwich, VT.

Scott Moore, who had a brain stem stroke two years ago, was among the participants learning to make pizza dough as part of their recent field trip organized for members of Dartmouth Health’s stroke support group.

We're thankful for our returning donors! Bobbie is a regular platelet donor and works at Dartmouth. Bobbie and Dartmouth Health Blood Donor Program team member Javier Rios are shown here during a recent appointment. Our turkey is ready to give you a treat after your donation.

🎃 Every October, we purchase a turkey from the Vermont Foodbank for every blood donation and then donate each turkey the Upper Valley Haven for their Turkey Day. The Haven gives out a complete Thanksgiving meal, including a turkey, all the sides and dessert, to families in need throughout the Upper Valley in November. This allows those families to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal together. 🦃

For 60 years, our Gift Shop has been much more than a place to pick up a card for a loved one in the hospital. DHMC's volunteer-run Gift Shop raises funds for nursing scholarships, purchasing hospital equipment, and critical patient services. It's a showcase of beautiful merchandise from New England artisans. And most importantly, it's a warm, colorful, inviting space to anyone visiting the hospital, especially those going through difficult times.

“There was a man in here one day, and his adult daughter was dying. I didn’t know that because we can’t ask, ‘why are you here?’” Gift Shop volunteer Joanne Lenke, a retired nurse, told New Hampshire Public Radio reporter Olivia Richardson. “I said, ‘can I give you a hug?’ and this man literally collapsed onto me. I felt good that hopefully he took comfort from that.”

“I think the gift shop is like the gem in the tiara of DH,” added Karen Terry, a 40-year Gift Shop volunteer.

October 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the valuable contributions of people with disabilities to the American workforce. DHMC is proud to welcome our 15th cohort of Project SEARCH interns!

Project SEARCH empowers young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to pursue competitive employment by helping them develop transferable job skills through hands-on internships across a variety of sites here at DHMC. We’ll be hosting an Open House event on October 22nd, stop by and learn about this great community partnership.
