The Southwest Virginia Medical Reserve Corps received a V.I.S.I.O.N award in the Community Response category for our work following Hurricane Helene. The award is presented by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). We were chosen from 800 units throughout the country.

V.I.S.I.O.N stands for Valuing Individuals Serving with Integrity, Outreach, and Nobility. These awards honor the exceptional contributions of Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers. "V.I.S.I.O.N." reflects the key qualities of MRC volunteers—integrity, outreach, and noble service. The name also represents the forward-thinking impact of their work in shaping public health and disaster response.

Risk of overdose remains high in the area- please continue to use caution and make sure plenty of naloxone is on hand!

Reports of a fentanyl-laced yellow substance causing overdoses in neighboring states could be the cause of increased local overdoses recently. Please use caution and carry naloxone, go low and slow at first.
