I don't think I've had the experience of being on the tarmac in America, but it's pretty normal in a lot of places, in this case a short flight from Hamburg to Stockholm.

Sad happy day. Last day of research in Germany before an early flight, but I get to see my family soon!!!! Also, my brain is fried.

Lots of archives are in palaces or castles. It's a good place to store history while making sure the building is preserved. This is in the courtyard of Stadtarchiv Meiningen. I don't know if I've ever been to an archive that was more chill.

I asked about fees, and the archivist said "Oh I got to work getting rid of those as soon as I started working here." She had worked in archives across the world and was so frustrated that there was a fee for everything in some places, but in others, you could access anything you want. She said "Here, as long as it's not protected by the data protection laws, I will help you find it, and you can take all the pictures you want."

I could get used to this. I've never been much of a city girl, so when work takes me to a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, I really can't complain.

The reading room attendant looked a little skeptical when I confirmed that yes, I did want all of these at once. Sometimes, you just need to spread out, and there was plenty of room.

I cannot wait to spend some more time with these records! This one is a rare find from 1782. It has three generations including hometowns for almost everyone!

Wow! What a few days it has been! Don't worry. I've been touching plenty of old books, and those photos will come soon, but let's talk about other things, LIKE DÖNER AMD CHOCOLATE!!!

I walked into the döner (like a Turkish gyro) place after a long day of research, and the guy asked me "to go or for here?" I didn't have anywhere to be, so I decided to sit and eat out of the rain, not that I have anything against the rain, but it's starting to get cold out. After a minute, they brought me some hot tea and extra napkins, which I ended up needing. Döner is not the kind of food you eat on a first date.

And today, I finally got my Ritter Sport Pfefferminz. I am not a big fan of milk chocolate. This is my favorite chocolate in the world so far. So rich and creamy!

And then I just added a couple of interesting pictures of Hamburg and the suburbs. Now, excuse me. I've got to get back to work.
