DartLab

DartLab DartLab is the immunoassay and flow cytometry shared resource associated with the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at the Geisel School of Medicine.

We are a Shared Resource that is used both by basic scientists and by clinicians carrying out mechanistic studies for clinical trials. Our services are also available to non-Dartmouth clients. The Flow Cytometry Laboratory was established as a service core in Dartmouth Medical School in 1981 and became a Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC) core in 1998. The Immune Monitoring Laboratory was established by Dr Channon Smith 10 years ago with COBRE and Cancer Center funding specifically to carry out correlative immunological endpoint assays and mechanistic studies for clinical trials in addition to basic immunology research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). In 2010 the two laboratories were amalgamated following the retirement of the Flow Cytometry Laboratory director, Alice Givan. The consolidated Shared Resource moves beyond the simple provisioning of technical services to making complex experiments possible by providing scientific and technological support for implementing advanced, high-complexity assays in a cost-effective way, and by providing a mechanism for the acquisition of new methodologies. This Shared Resource is unique, not only at Dartmouth, but also regionally.

Check out DartLab's new pre-print! We saw novel changes in the B cell cytokine secretion profile in MS patients treated with interferon beta.

In order to explore the effect of IFNβ-1b treatment on B cell phenotype and function in RRMS patients, blood was drawn from RRMS patients before treatment and again 2 and 6 months after every other day injections of IFNβ-1b. Cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were thawed and ...

DartLab has had some questions about FlowJo and compatibility with MacOS Big Sur or the new M1 Macs. FlowJo has done some testing and reported their results at the enclosed link. The short answer is, FlowJo seems to work with both Big Sur and M1 Macs, though it doesn't take advantage of the new features of the new chip.

macOS Big Sur and M1 Chips macOS Big Sur is the 17th and current major release of macOS, Apple’s operating system for Macintosh computers, and is the successor to macOS Catalina. It was released to the public on November 12, 2020 and is the first macOS version to support Macs with M1 chips (instea...

AF647 and APC in the same experiment? They said it couldn't be done! While we don't necessarily recommend it if you have better fluorophore options, DartLab's Cytek Aurora can easily handle it!

DartLab was thrilled to play a small part in the third paper on this list, preparing PBMCs, B cells, and plasma from healthy donors and recovered COVID-19 patients for our friends at Adimab.

A trio of papers describes several newly discovered human antibodies that target the virus, isolated from survivors of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV infection.
