Emergency department (ED) visits are up, and so are wait times. If your illness or condition is not life-threatening but needs prompt action, consider visiting your hospital’s nearest express or urgent care.

Most walk-in centers are designed for immediate, non-emergency care. But when you visit a hospital-linked center, your attending medical provider will likely be able to consult your medical records and share what they find with your provider.

For life-threatening conditions like chest pain, broken bones, or a serious head injury, go to the closest ED. If you need urgent help, call 9-1-1.

Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the OneLegacy Donate Life Float and New England Donor Services (NEDS), is honored to dedicate a rose to be placed on the 2026 OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade Float. APD President and CEO, Michael Lynch, MD, MBA, signed a rose vial to be featured on the float. The rose vial dedication garden on the float honors donors, donor families, recipients, patients waiting, and healthcare heroes who make organ and tissue donation and transplantation possible.

The OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float co-sponsor, New England Donor Services’ floragraph on the 2026 float, will honor Aidan “AJ” Skinner. Aidan was an organ donor after he died at age 12, and saved 5 lives, and his corneas restored sight.

Make sure you tune in to watch the Rose Parade on January 1st at 8 am!

APD and the CCBA kicked off their The Four Pillars of Health series with a session led by Elizabeth Mann, MD, MPH, focusing on why sleep matters and how small changes can lead to better rest.

Here are Dr. Mann's tips to improve your sleep (shared exactly as presented):

• Create a restful environment. Keep your bedroom dark and quiet. Use calming scents like lavender. Try a warm bath or foot soak, or sip chamomile tea before bed. Set up a separate charging station to keep phones away from your bed.
• Build healthy daytime habits. Limit naps to 45 minutes or less. Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol at least 4 hours before bedtime. Exercise daily, but not too close to bedtime. Avoid intense activity within 2 hours of going to sleep.
• Manage stress. Journaling before bed can help calm your mind. Try writing down things you’re grateful for to end your day on a positive note.
• Track your sleep. A sleep diary can help you spot patterns and problems, especially if you're struggling with insomnia. Record when you wake up, how often, and why.

Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital

Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of our community. Since 1932, Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD) has been the community hospital of the Upper Valley, delivering high-quality health care in a friendly environment where patients come first.

Mrs. Alice Peck Day was a fifth generation resident of Lebanon, NH. Upon her death in 1927, she bequeathed her family home to found a cottage hospital in 1927. Dr. Arthur Burnham, one of the area's leading physicians at the time, helped lead the drive for incorporation, and APD opened its doors for the first time on February 1, 1932.

Today, APD cares for 20,000 patients per year from communities throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. Long-known for providing highly personalized care, APD also offers a wide range of specialized services which include orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, pain management, primary and family care, senior care, and women’s care. The majority of APD’s outpatient services moved into the new Multi-Specialty Clinic in the fall of 2017. Through APD’s affiliation with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, we affirm our commitment to creating a sustainable health system to improve the lives of the people and communities we serve for generations to come. Please visit AlicePeckDay.org for more information, and join us on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
