John Knox Village resident Dorinda Nicholson grew up on the shores of Pearl Harbor, where at age six, she witnessed the attack on December 7, 1941. But rather than letting that day define her by fear, Dorinda has spent decades turning it into a mission for peace.

As a National Geographic author and speaker, Dorinda has shared her experience with students, veterans, and communities around the world.

Earlier this month, she returned to Hawaii to not only commemorate the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, but to also meet survivors of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. Dorinda presented them with two quilts handmade by her neighbor right here at the Village.

Dorinda’s message is timeless and powerful: “What can you do for peace?” 💙

At John Knox Village, we're proud to care not only for our residents but also for the Greater Lee’s Summit and Kansas City communities.

The John Knox Village Foundation has been focused recently on helping many of the professionals who provide that care to our residents and throughout the Kansas City region by raising money for a new headquarters building for our Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

With your support, we've raised well over $3 million for a new, state-of-the-art EMS facility on campus. Every donation helps us get closer to our goal of providing our first responders with the space and resources they need to do their jobs better.
