YOU DON'T NEED TO RUN, BUT YOU DO NEED TO MOVE!
Daily movement is important for our overall wellbeing.
Exercise enhances the ability to concentrate and focus.
We move lymph and release toxins through breathing and sweating, urination, and bowel elimination.
Here's a couple ways to get more movement in your day:
-take the stairs
-dance
-work out with a friend
How did you add extra movement in your day?

CARBOHYDRATES ARE ONE OF THE PRIMARY SOURCES OF ENERGY.

THE KEY IS FINDING THE RIGHT CARBS, NOT ELIMINATING THEM FROM THE DIET.

Complex Carbs are better than Simple Carbs, but how do you tell the difference?

Carbohydrates are made up of fiber, starch, and sugar.

Simple Carbs are sugar. Considered empty calories, most are added to processed foods. Diets high in simple carbs lead to weight gain, Type 2 Diabetes, and heart disease.

-raw sugar
-brown sugar
-corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup
-glucose, fructose, sucrose
-fruit juice concentrate

Complex Carbs are higher in nutrients than simple carbs. They are high in fiber and take longer to digest.

-whole grains
-whole fruit
-vegetables
-beans

Complex carbs keeps you fuller longer, make it easier to control weight, and keep the blood sugar from spiking after meals.

HYDRATION CHALLENGE

My challenge for you this week is to increase your water intake.

Why?

Because most of us are dehydrated and don’t realize how it's affecting us!

Drinking coffee, energy drinks, and soda are not only high in caffeine which dehydrates us more, but they are also high in sugar. Both cause extra stress on the kidneys.

Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration:
* Headache

* Dizziness

* Dry mouth

* Low blood pressure

* Increased heart rate

* Fatigue

* Pain

* Dry Skin

* Chapped Lips

* Delirium

* Dark yellow urine

* Constipation

This challenge has two parts.
1. Increase your water intake for the next 5 days. Shoot for a goal of ½ your body weight in ounces of water (unless a medical condition limits your water). Example- you weigh 100lbs. Half that is 50- so 50 ounces of water is your daily goal.

2. Notice any changes about your body this week. Do you have more energy? Are you pooping more often? Did that headache resolve itself? You can use the above list for examples.

Don’t like plain water? Try adding lemon/lime, fruit or cucumber slices for additional flavor.

Comment below and let me know what your goal is. Did you meet it today? What did you notice

What’s Insulin Resistance?
When you digest carbohydrates, they break down into a sugar called glucose. As the sugar moves through the bloodstream, blood sugar increases and tells the pancreas to secretes insulin. Insulin delivers sugar into the cell to be used as energy or it becomes stored as glycogen for future needs. As insulin escorts sugar into the cells, blood sugar returns to normal levels.
This process is interrupted when you are insulin resistant. Your cells become deaf and don’t hear insulin’s message. The pancreas produces more insulin, in a way yelling at the cells “Sugar’s Coming”! The sugar in the blood stream stays elevated, as it can’t enter the deaf cell
Eventually the constantly elevated blood sugars wear the pancreas out. It can no longer produce enough insulin to get the cells attention.
Eventually there is a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.
This in turn affects the thyroid as it lowers the level of TSH, T4, and impairs conversion of T4 to T3.
It also affects the adrenals as they keep releasing cortisol. Elevated cortisol decreases production of s*x hormones.
So how do you correct Insulin Resistance and its effects on the body?
All roads lead back to balancing blood sugar.
Eliminating or greatly decreasing the white stuff- sugar and simple carbohydrates.
Morning exercise also helps reduce blood sugar.
You can purchase an inexpensive store brand glucometer and strips to test your blood sugars.
Test in the morning before eating (70-100mg/dl non-diabetic: 80-130 for diabetic)
Test two hours after a meal (
