š A day in the Life of a Behavior Consultant Providing Therapeutic Consultation
šļø 8:30 AM ā Coffee in hand, laptop open.
I review notes from yesterdayās home visit. What patterns are emerging? What happened before the behavior? What happened after? The data tells a story ā and my job is to listen.
šļø 10:00 AM ā Iām at a group home observing a morning routine.
Is the individual given enough time to process instructions?
Are expectations clear?
Is the environment setting them up for success⦠or stress?
Iām not there to judge.
Iām there to understand.
š¬11:30 AM ā Team coaching.
We talk through strategies:
ā How to support transitions without escalating anxiety
ā How to reinforce communication attempts
ā How to respond calmly and consistently
Behavior doesnāt happen in isolation. Support teams need support too.
š12:45 PM ā I head home to finish the day from my home office.
Therapeutic Consultation often blends in-person support with focused analysis time. The flexibility allows for meaningful observation in the field ā and thoughtful plan development afterward.
š1:00 PM ā Writing and revising a Behavior Support Plan.
Not just āreduce behavior.ā
But teach a replacement skill.
Increase independence.
Protect dignity.
Improve quality of life.
š»3:00 PM ā Virtual meeting with a family.
We talk about sleep routines.
About triggers.
About small wins that matter more than people realize.
There are no āquick fixesā in Therapeutic Consultation.
There is assessment.
There is collaboration.
There is data.
There is compassion.
Every day looks different.
šSometimes itās analyzing ABC data.
šØāš«Sometimes itās modeling how to prompt safely.
šSometimes itās celebrating that a transition happened without tears for the first time in months.
šTherapeutic Consultation isnāt 1:1 therapy.
šš¾Itās system-level support.
šItās coaching.
š¤Itās building sustainable strategies across environments.
āItās asking:
What is this person trying to communicate?
āļøAnd how do we help them succeed?
At PosAbilities Clinic, our Behavior Consultants partner with families, group homes, and day programs to create meaningful, lasting change ā grounded in evidence-based practice and guided by dignity.
Because behavior support should build skills, not just manage crises.
