The Arc of Loudoun is a lifelong partner for people with disabilities and their families, providing services, education, advocacy, and therapy.
We serve as a regional hub for support through three Centers of Excellence, reaching 5,000+ people each year. Founded in 1967, The Arc of Loudoun advocates for, educates, serves, and supports people with disabilities and their families, serving more than 7,000 people each year including people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, educators, advocates; Arc volunteers; Veterans; members of the law enforcement, first responder and judicial system communities. At The Arc of Loudoun, we believe in creating a just and equitable world for people with disabilities—and we work toward that goal every day through our three core centers:
Ability Fitness Center – Promoting strength and mobility through fitness-based therapy
ALLY Advocacy Center – Empowering individuals and families through advocacy and support
The Aurora School – Providing specialized education for students with developmental disabilities
With more than 24,000 people with disabilities in Loudoun County, our work is far from done. But with your support, we can continue building a more inclusive community—one where everyone belongs.

Congratulations to the Dec. 9 graduates of the Crisis Intervention Training program!
We are proud to celebrate the 65th graduating class, which included representatives from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Fire Marshal’s Office, Leesburg Police Department, Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue, Loudoun County Public Schools Safety and Security Officers, the United States Capitol Police, and the Diplomatic Security Service.
The week-long training is led by dedicated professionals from MHSADS, certified LCSO CIT deputies, and subject matter experts who share their knowledge on the medical, social, psychological, and legal aspects of mental illness. Their guidance helps ensure that first responders across our community are equipped to support individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis with compassion and understanding.
Loudoun’s CIT program is made possible through partnerships between The Arc of Loudoun, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Loudoun County Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Health Services, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Northern Virginia, and the Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
We are grateful for this partnership and for every graduate who is committed to making Loudoun County a safer and more supportive place for all!

Ability Fitness Center has been in the holiday spirit all week.
Check out today's holiday spirit day: Flannel Day. The AFC team and clients showed up cozy and festive as they continued their hard work toward greater strength and independence.
If you are looking for a therapeutic fitness and wellness center that specializes in serving individuals with neurological and mobility-related conditions, reach out. We would love to support you on your journey.
Our expert clinicians and specialized equipment provide innovative, customized interventions that help increase functional ability for people with spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy, balance disorders, developmental disabilities, Muscular Dystrophy, Down Syndrome, and more.
I have spent countless hours a week recovering both mentally and physically in an environment with both professionals and individuals who are tough, welcoming, tireless, and strong in ways they will never know. I can definitely say that my recovery would have not have been nearly as profound, both mentally and physically, if I had not found Ability Fitness Center and I instead continued to try to do it alone.
I hope you’ll join me in supporting The Arc of Loudoun this holiday season. From now until the end of the year - thanks to a generous anonymous donor - every dollar you give will be doubled, up to $10,000! Your donation today goes even further toward a lifetime of opportunities for people with disabilities. Thank you!

In 1967, parents of children with disabilities founded The Arc of Loudoun because they had a vision to help their family members live “a life like yours.” In December 2009, The Arc leased the Paxton Campus and, on this property, created a seven acre "safe-haven" for all people with disabilities and their families.
Today, The Arc of Loudoun, a local chapter of The Arc National, is home to five, integrated programs that serve the most vulnerable and underserved in Loudoun and the Greater DC Region—children and adults with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and the professionals who work to help them achieve their greatest potential. We are the only community-based non-profit working for people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities throughout their lifetimes. We encompass all ages and all spectrums from autism, ASD, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, intellectual disabilities, various other developmental disabilities, and neurophysical disabilities including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, effects from stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy.
The Arc of Loudoun serves more than 6,000 people with disabilities and their families each year through its five, integrated programs:
Open Door Learning Center equips preschool children ages 2-7 of all abilities with the social and developmental skills they need to thrive in mainstream kindergarten.
The Aurora School, a year-round private day school, helps significantly challenged students ages 5-22, primarily with autism, achieve personal excellence, gain independence and vocational skills to maximize their potential. Students come from nine different school systems including MD, VA, WV, and DC.
Ability Fitness Center is for people with neurological disorders—stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, parkinson's disease, down syndrome—giving them a one-of-a-kind place to workout using specialized equipment and expert clinicians.
Aurora Behavior Clinic provides individualized 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children ages 2-22 with autism and other related disabilities, with a specialized curriculum focused on verbal behavior and increasing social interactions.
ALLY "A Life Like Yours" Advocacy Center fills the unmet needs of the community by providing free information on disability rights, guidance, support, events, and workshops to families and caretakers of those with disabilities and the professionals who work with them, plus social activities for adults with disabilities.
