While reassuring your child seems like a natural response as a parent, if your child has OCD their reassurance seeking could be part of a compulsion.

In our latest blog, Kendall Lloyd LCSW shares how this behavior could be strengthening your child’s OCD loop. She discusses tips for introducing “uncertainty” into your child’s requests and how to help your child move toward more flexibility.

We want to show up for our community in the only way we know how right now. We have a limited number of spots for one free crisis session. Please note these are different than longer term therapy. The focus will be your immediate needs in this crisis, how to access further support if needed and to have a safe place to start. We also have a list of other community clinics that are participating in support for the community and will share all the resources we are aware of, and how to access that support. Please reach out to us today via text, call or email.

The shooting of Charlie Kirk at the UVU campus hit close to home with our clinic 15 minutes away. We personally know staff and students that work and attend there.

It has stirred up a lot of feelings for us that cannot be adequately addressed in a single social media post.

What I do want to say is that gun and political violence should not be a partisan issue. To be better collectively, we must condemn it regardless of political affiliation. It is hard to see voices quiet when someone is murdered on the political spectrum they don’t align with but loud when it does. It is painful to see preventable deaths due to gun violence with no changes to any laws despite the majority of Americans believing reasonable gun control measures should exist.

We do not have to all hold the same values or opinions but I do believe seeing the humanity in each other, regardless of political affiliation would make us a better country. Harmful partisan rhetoric, the othering of those different from us, or living life different than our values and beliefs, is not decreasing the violence in our country. I fear it is only increasing it.

As therapists, we get to hold space with people often different from us in beliefs, ideologies, and identities. Yet, we get the privilege of seeing them as just as human as us… we all know what it’s like to feel shame, sad, lonely, scared, joyful.

Holding different values, coming from a different country, practicing a different religion, having different sexual preferences or gender identity SHOULD NOT be a partisan issue. It’s hard to hate up close, and we can’t ignore that marginalizing those different from us, and doing so loudly, isn’t also part of the problem contributing to the rise in violence.

As a clinic we are currently exploring ways to support those directly impacted by the shooting. Our page will be updated today to reflect this.

If you don’t live in Utah you may have never heard of this holiday, but for Utahns it’s the day that celebrates the first Mormon (aka Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) pioneers that settled in the Salt Lake City valley in 1847.

For practicing LDS members this is often a fun, firework filled holiday that celebrates their ancestors and religion. However, for those that have left the religion it can be fraught with anger, annoyance, or frustration as it brings up their own painful experiences.

Leaving a religion that is so interwoven in so many parts of your life, especially in a community where it is the predominant religion can be scary and confusing. If you’re in the struggle currently, our own wrote a new blog post on how to talk to loved ones about leaving their faith. Check out the link in our bio and head to blog posts!

If you need help navigating a faith transition on a deeper level our therapists are here to help! We have immediate openings and take a handful or insurances, or offer a sliding scale for our intern Kell Troff.
