We're honored to celebrate Sheila Perez, a Labor & Delivery nurse and our DAISY Award recipient!

For first-time parents facing an induction and a night filled with nerves and uncertainty, Sheila brought calm, clarity, and compassion when it was needed most. From carefully explaining each step of care to recognizing stress and easing it with humor and presence, she made sure her patients always felt supported and understood.

Congratulations, Sheila, and thank you for creating such meaningful moments for families during one of the most important days of their lives.

On Veterans Day, a father’s life was saved by the people closest to him—and by an extraordinary chain of care.

During a Ruck March honoring veterans, Adrian Ramirez of South Jordan suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. His son, Francisco, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, immediately began CPR while fellow participants called 911 and provided support.

Thanks to the swift response of Unified Fire, Lehi Fire, and the care team at Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point, Adrian received life-saving treatment for a 95% blockage in his “widowmaker” artery and made a remarkable recovery.

We were honored to recognize Francisco and the EMS professionals with Great Save Awards for their heroic efforts.

This festive season is all about enjoying time with friends and family. As you plan your gatherings, remember to consider how everyone gets home, as there's no excuse to drive impaired.

For Hosts: Encourage designated drivers, have non-alcoholic options, and offer a place to stay.
For Guests: Plan your ride before you even leave the house.

We want everyone to enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.

Congratulations to Tren Steggell, an RN in Labor and Delivery, for receiving the DAISY Award!

Tren was nominated for the exceptional care and support he provided during a patient’s birth experience. When labor became challenging and a C-section was needed, Tren helped the family feel informed, supported, and confident in their decision. His calm, light-hearted bedside presence provided reassurance during surgery preparation, and he continued to advocate for his patient’s comfort and needs afterward.

Because of Tren’s compassion and attentiveness, this birth experience became far less traumatic than it could have been. We are grateful for caregivers like Tren who make such a meaningful difference during life’s most vulnerable moments.

This holiday season, Evan Glover and his dad, Brent, will be sharing more than just gifts – they'll be sharing a miracle.

Just last month, on November 8th, life paused for Brent. The 50-year-old Saratoga Springs resident suffered sudden cardiac arrest. But fate, and a truly heroic son, had other plans. Evan, a Utah Valley University student, was home, and without hesitation, called 911.

What followed was a desperate race against time - four minutes of Evan performing CPR, guided by a dispatcher, keeping his father's heart beating until paramedics arrived. They took over, using a defibrillator five times, until Brent's heart finally found its rhythm again.

Then, the team at Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point's Emergency Department, ready and waiting, stabilized Brent before performing a life-saving procedure in the Cath Lab to unblock an artery. After nearly a week in ICU, Brent is not just home, not just back at work, but thriving.
Brent's heart is full of gratitude for Evan, the Saratoga Springs EMS team, and the dedicated professionals at Holy Cross who gave him the ultimate gift: another Christmas. This is a powerful reminder that heroes are all around us!

In the midst of the healing journey, sometimes the greatest comfort comes from a quiet space to reflect, pray, or simply be. This week, we celebrated two newly dedicated chapels at our Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point, Lehi and Layton campuses.

Bishop Oscar Solis of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City led beautiful dedication services, blessing these special rooms. Providing spiritual well-being is central to our mission, and these are now officially open to all patients and visitors, 24/7. And weekly Masses will be held.

We hope these spaces offer a sense of calm and a source of strength whenever needed.

The leader of Utah's 300,000 Catholics dedicated hospital chapels in Layton and Lehi this week as places of healing and comfort.
