The Community Support Providers of South Dakota have hosted a Simply the Best conference for years to honor our Direct Support Professionals who are the backbone of our industry. Simply the Best started at a time when agencies were able to send large numbers of DSP's together for the conference. It is a time of education, recognition, networking and celebrating the profession. Conferences have been held all over the state, combined with other events. Since our industry and the services have grown and become so complex and all encompassing, we are no longer able to bring large numbers together, however, are still committed to recognizing our DSP's. Annually, each agency nominates a recipient of the Excellence in Service Award. While all of our DSPs are award winners in our eyes, each agency has the difficult task of narrowing down the Excellence in Service Award to just one of their outstanding employees. This award is given to an employee who has been employed in the field of developmental disabilities for at least one year, has demonstrated an outstanding record, goes above and beyond minimum job requirements, contributes to the overall quality of life for people served, has gained the respect of both people served and coworkers, and has been selected by their agency as deserving of this award. We are pleased to celebrate our award winners. We are proud of their dedicated services and supports to adults with disabilities. They are the people who âget itâ; the people with the âright stuffâ. They represent the many DSPs who make a difference every day in the lives of people with disabilities. This yearâs recipient of the Simply the Best award from Live, Inc. is Jocelyn Egle.
Here is what Jocelynâs peers said in her nomination: Jocelyn does many jobs for the agency and does them well. She is the
Outreach DSP and her main job is to assist people in apartments, but she does so much more. She schedules appointments for haircuts ensuring everyone is able to look their best. Jocelyn is always willing to pick up more duties & goes out of her way to help her co-workers. Jocelyn has repeatedly helped with driving people to different locations, bringing items to the work sites. Jocelyn is one of the few people that knows & has worked with everyone. She cares about what is best for them. One gentleman enjoys one on one time & does not like loud environments. She will take him for walks, take him to volunteer at Meals on Wheels, take him to the lake for time away & takes him to the bank. One of the people in the apartment has a cat & a dog who Jocelyn has been known to go on her day off to take care of his animals when he is out of town. She is very handy &is willing to put together anything from a shelving unit, painting a room or fixing a door knob. She is a valuable asset to Live, Inc. & the people
supported.
