At Mayes Memorials, we take great pride in creating lasting tributes from some of the finest materials sourced right here in the USA. The strength, beauty, and durability of American granite ensure that every memorial we craft stands the test of time.

We’re proud to use:
🪨 Barre Gray Granite – from Barre, Vermont, known worldwide for its consistent color, fine grain, and enduring strength.
🖤 Pennsylvania Black Granite – quarried in Quakertown, PA, offering a deep, rich finish that brings elegance and distinction to any design.
🌄 Dakota Mahogany Granite – from the Dakotas, featuring warm brown and red tones that beautifully complement natural surroundings.
🌸 North American Pink Granite – recognized for its soft, warm hue and timeless beauty, adding a graceful and classic touch to any memorial.

By choosing American-sourced materials, we’re not only supporting local industry but also ensuring that every memorial reflects the quality, heritage, and care our families deserve.

While we’re proud to feature these exceptional U.S. materials, we also offer a wide selection of imported granites for families who prefer other colors or styles. No matter your choice, we are dedicated to helping you find the perfect material to honor your loved one.

Check out this amazing then-and-now comparison of our storefront, one photo from the 1950s and one from today in 2025!

Back then, everything happened right here in the Lemont office, from helping families choose the perfect memorial, to actually crafting each one by hand. If you walked in during the 50s, you’d hear the sound of compressors and see dust in the air.

Fast forward to today, and while our commitment to quality hasn’t changed, a few things have. Our memorials are now created in a dedicated workshop, not far from the office, so the storefront can focus on welcoming families and helping them through the design process, no dust required. 😊

We’re proud of how far we’ve come and grateful to be part of this community for so many decades. Thank you for being part of our journey! ❤️

This week, we had the honor of restoring the foundation of a monument originally installed in the early 1900s. Over a century later, the original foundation disintegrated, leaving the monument unstable. To keep it standing, the cemetery caretaker had been propping it up with large rocks-- a temporary fix for a structure that deserves so much more.

Thankfully, the family made the right decision and called us to fully restore the foundation. We carefully removed the monument, poured a new concrete base, and reinstalled it with the stability and respect it deserves.

At Mayes Memorials, we believe that monuments are more than stone-- they are markers of lives lived, legacies left, and history worth preserving. It's our privilege to help ensure these stories are not lost to time.

And we’re not done yet-- soon, we’ll return to professionally clean the monument and bring it back to its original dignity.

Swipe through to see the process, from the old foundation to the newly restored monument, standing tall once again. 🕊️

Did you know Mayes Memorials is one of the oldest continuously operating small businesses in Centre County?

We were founded in 1880 by master stonemason Jones Berry Mayes, right in Houserville, a small township in what’s now State College, PA.

📸 This photo dates back to our earliest days — a glimpse into where it all began.

For over 140 years, we've remained committed to the same values: quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer care.
