As we celebrate Social Work Month, Priscilla Salinas shares her reflection about special moments connected with serving others as a social worker:
Villa always leaves me with special memories. I shared a sweet moment recently with one of our memory care residents. She had lipstick on, and I told her how nice it looked and how much I loved the color on her. She wryly smiled and joked, “Well thank you, I am looking for a man!” It was the cutest conversation and such a joyful moment that made my day. 💖 Also: The Honor Walk is a particularly powerful tradition. When a resident passes, staff gather to honor them as they leave the building, showing respect and gratitude for the life they lived. Although it is very sad, the Honor Walk means so much to the family and to the staff who participate. It is a beautiful way to show families how much we truly care and that they are part of our Villa family.

Check out this Reflection shared from the CCH Hospice Social Workers (Tobi, Kim and Jamie):
We’re most thankful for the social workers we get to stand beside every day. We’ve never met a more supportive, compassionate group—people who make this work sustainable in a field that asks so much.

There’s something special in how we show up—with love, respect, and a servant heart. Like good neighbors, we’re there when it matters, offering care without overstepping and bringing light into hard moments.

Because of each other, we don’t leave drained—we leave feeling grounded, supported, and held in a field that can so easily feel otherwise. 💖

We had such a fun and meaningful time with the Sisters of Charity creating flower arrangements together 🌸

It’s always a joy—and truly a blessing—to spend time listening to their stories and hearing about the incredible lives of so many wonderful Sisters. Their wisdom, faith, and experiences are so inspiring.

Grateful for moments like these and the opportunity to connect in such a special way đź©·

Ali Tusten, LMSW reflects on her role as social worker:
The most meaningful part of my role is making a difference and brightening our residents’ days. I’ve built wonderful connections with many residents who feel like family and they hold a special place in my heart. 💖
Over the years I have been here to help with a variety of projects, from audits to resident assessments. Recently, I have been showing the ropes to our intern, Ericka. It’s an honor to support another social worker as she learns this fulfilling work!

Ericka Bell (Intern: Social Work) shares her reflection: One thing I have enjoyed the most is the kindness of the entire staff. đź’– It is visible in every single aspect from resident care, to staff interaction, to planning for future goals. While I am experiencing many firsts at Villa St. Francis, the opportunity to play Bingo with the residents is going to be a hard one to beat! We had so much fun!
