KC Bariatric has been in practice since 2002, providing weight loss surgery care to thousands of patients in the metropolitan Kansas City and surrounding mid-west areas. We provide patient education, full preoperative evaluation of each patient's mental and physical health, coordination of care, assistance with insurance issues, and post-operative support groups in order to help ensure the safety and success of our patients. Weight loss surgery is not cosmetic surgery, nor does it actually "remove" a patient's excess weight. It is a TOOL that assists in weight loss and weight maintenance for patients who are 100 or more pounds overweight and who have failed weight loss through traditional dietary and behavior modifications. If you or someone you love is obese, you know how difficult life can be. Excess weight impacts your health, your self-esteem, and your relationships. People with obesity are at greater risk for serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and diabetes. When diet and exercise aren't working, it may seem like there is no hope. At KC Bariatric, we specialize in providing alternatives for the care and treatment of obesity and its related co-morbidities in the forms of Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and LapBand Gastric Banding Surgeries. If you are considering the decision to undergo weight loss surgery, you'll want to educate yourself on these life-changing procedures. We are here to answer all of your questions and to determine if you are a candidate for surgery through our program.

Bariatric journey.
It’s rarely about willpower. More often, it’s about how the body adapts over time and how habits shift as life changes.
That’s why long-term follow-up, education, and support matter just as much after surgery as before.

If you’re noticing changes or have questions about weight regain, reach out to our team or join one of our support groups. You’re not alone - and help is available.

"I started my journey in 2020 during covid and I had decided to take my life back. It's taken me 5 years to get this far but I always say it's a journey not a sprint. I'll never regret the day I chose to take my life back. There's a lot more joy in this body than in my old. Less pain, less sadness, less hardships. I was able to get back into volunteering again after surgery and since have become the chairperson on the board for Melissa's Second Chances and an outreach lead for Heart of America Humane Society."

Your health journey can open doors you never imagined - more energy, more joy, and the freedom to live fully.

Building lasting habits after bariatric surgery isn’t about willpower - it’s about structure, consistency, and small wins. Here are some strategies to help you make habits stick:
• Start Small: Focus on tiny, achievable actions that won’t feel overwhelming.
• Tie Habits to Triggers: Connect a new habit to something you already do daily.
• Track Your Progress: Checking off habits or tracking streaks reinforces consistency.
• Be Patient & Flexible: Habits take time to form - missed days don’t mean failure.
• Consistency Over Intensity: Doing a habit daily matters more than doing it perfectly.
Over time, these strategies make healthy behaviors automatic, helping you stay on track with your weight loss and lifestyle goals.

"For years, I carried more than physical weight. After failed marriages and coping in ways that didn’t serve me, I hit a breaking point in 2020. At a pumpkin patch with my kids, I felt exhausted and depleted. When I saw the photos later, I didn’t recognize myself. At 5'1” and 230 pounds, I was hurting in my body and in my confidence.
As a cosmetologist, my weight was affecting my livelihood. My shoulders, knees, and hips ached constantly, and during longer services my hands would tingle and fall asleep. I knew something had to change.
I began my medical journey during the pandemic and was thriving in a bariatric program in Colorado - just one month from surgery - when tragedy forced me to move back to Kansas. I was devastated, but my surgeon helped transfer my care to KC Bariatric. There, I met Dr. Aragon, and on March 21, 2022, I had the surgery that changed my life.
Recovery wasn’t “smooth sailing.” A year later, I needed surgery for an internal hernia. I had low-motivation days and moments of trial and error. By my two-year post-op visit, my weight had stalled and even started to climb. That’s when my nurse, Paula, suggested medical assistance. After trying an oral medication that didn’t work for me, we found Zepbound - and it was the missing piece. The constant “food noise” was finally gone.
I stayed committed even through a 14-day honeymoon across England, Ireland, and Scotland - traveling with ice packs and injections to stay on track.
The results:
• Weight: 230 → 123 lbs
• Size: 18 → 2/4
• Health: Sleep apnea gone, labs perfect, no more energy drinks
Best of all, my stress test came back like someone half my age. I’ve always been the fun mom and aunt - now I have the health to be the fun grandma too. This was the best decision I ever made for myself."

Every journey looks different - but having the right support, tools, and care team can make all the difference.
