Tech neck, also referred to as "text neck" is pain that’s caused by repetitive strain to the muscles and tissues in the cervical spine. The average adult head weighs 10-12 pounds, or about the same weight of a bowling ball. This "bowling ball" is supported by the bony structures, muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the neck. It is estimated that for every inch for every inch that the head is held forward in poor posture, an additional 10 pounds of weight is felt on the cervical spine. So in the the common posture for texting, the weight of your head places 50-60 pounds of force on the neck.
