Meet Eduardo Urbina, Nuclear Med and Cardiac Stress Lab Nurse at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital.

"Growing up I was always told I was a people’s person. Connecting with others and helping them feel comfortable was something I looked forward to doing. While in high school, I knew I wanted to do something where I could use this ability. Around that same time, my family started to ask me what I wanted to study in college. I really had no clue. Something I have to share is that most of my family works in health care. Talking to my aunts and uncles made me realize that nursing was the career path for me. Connecting and helping others during their time of need was something I wanted to do. And, as an added bonus, there were so many different areas of nursing to choose from.

My favorite part of my job is making someone smile or helping them get at ease when I know they are not feeling their best.

I’ve had a lot of fulfilling moments in my almost 23-year career. Besides patient care, I have helped to educate nurses, build departments and start new programs. But the most memorable moments happen when I’m walking around my community or church, and someone comes up to me to thank me for taking care of either them or a loved one. It is such a satisfying feeling, and it makes me happy I was able to help someone in their time of need.

UMass Memorial is my second home. I started my nursing career, fresh out of college, here. And even though I have pursued other interests, I always come back. I feel my colleagues are always looking out for the best interest of our patients and the community.

When I’m not at work, I try to stay active. I love watching my kids play sports. I play in a mens-over-40 soccer league. I ride my onewheel around town and also do Crossfit."

You are such an amazing person, Eduardo! Our community is so lucky to have you.
