Since joining UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital earlier this year, she’s made a huge impact—improving skin integrity practices, preventing harm, and helping save costs. Her leadership and quick thinking are making care safer every day.

Indigenous Peoples Day invites us to reflect on the true history of the Americas — one that acknowledges Native peoples as the original stewards of this land. It centers the voices and experiences of Indigenous communities, past and present. Recognizing this day is a step toward changing the narratives that have not acknowledged or have misrepresented Native histories. It also supports the ongoing fight for visibility of Indigenous peoples across the country.

Big congrats to Sue Matuszewski, RN, from our Clinton Campus Emergency Department, on receiving the DAISY Award!

Sue was nominated by a grateful family member who shared how she went above and beyond to care for their mother, sharing: "My 79-year-old mother was seen in the ED for severe pain/infection. Susan was our nurse and was amazing. Not only did she have a friendly and fun personality, but she explained everything she was doing and went over and beyond for me and my mother. My mother was scared and in pain, but Susan kept my mother calm and at times made my mother laugh with her humor."

Chosen from over 50 nominees, Sue truly represents the heart of nursing.
