Leadership That Makes a Difference in Rural Health Care. Rural hospitals and clinics today face significant challenges and uncertainty with closures occurring at an unprecedented rate. Currently one in three rural hospitals have been identified as at risk. At the same time nearly half of rural hospital CEOs are serving in their roles for the first time and turnover in healthcare continues to outpace all other industries. When leadership transitions occur, the pool of qualified candidates is often limited.
In response to these challenges the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) developed the Rural Hospital CEO Certification Program. This program was designed by experienced rural hospital CEOs specifically for rural hospital leaders, with the goal of strengthening leadership skills and equipping CEOs to guide their organizations towards long-term success.
This rigorous 9-month program explores 4 key leadership types and provides in-depth training in operational strategies, clinical engagement with physicians and quality improvement, and financial strategies unique to rural hospitals. The curriculum is built on the insights of seasoned CEOs, answering the critical question: What do you know now that you wish you had known then?
