Classic bilateral co**ha bullosa of the middle turbinates contributing to nasal congestion and sinus outflow obstruction. While typically asymptomatic, these anatomical variants can contribute to both chronic and recurrent sinus symptoms. Along with opening the sinus, they can be resected to improve airflow and sinus drainage. Often performed in an operating room under general anesthesia, I perform this procedure in the office under local anesthesia, typically only taking 20 minutes. This approach significantly reduced patient recovery time and cost.
Classic example below
Image 1: CT imaging
Image 2: Pre procedure - note general obstruction of the middle meatus (the region of the maxillary, frontal and ethmoid sinus drainage pathways)
Image 3: Post procedure - note resection of co**ha bullosa, maxillary sinus opening to the left, and anterior ethmoidectomy
