Even though 50/50 custody splits are often seen as ideal, they may not always be in the best interests of a child. As we discuss in our latest article, developmental "yellow flags" such as regression and executive functioning issues call for reevaluating the schedule.
If we cling to a 50/50 split despite evidence that it no longer serves the child, we may prioritize "parental rights" over "childhood stability." A responsive, attuned parenting style doesn't mean failing to recognize when it is time to switch from a 50/50 schedule to a 70/30 or 60/40 schedule.
