March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

Every day, people come in for a screening that could change, or even save, their life. Colorectal cancer often begins as small polyps that can be found and removed before they become cancer.

That’s why screening is so important. Most adults should begin screening at age 45, and a colonoscopy remains one of the most effective ways to detect and remove polyps early.

Sometimes the most powerful step you can take for your health is simply getting checked. 💙

When seconds matter most 🏥

Caring for a community means being prepared for the moments no one ever hopes to face.

Recently, teams across CMMC participated in a mass casualty training exercise designed to prepare for large-scale emergencies. The scenario simulated an explosion at a local mill, challenging healthcare professionals, including emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, nurses, patient care assistants, nursing educators, radiology, blood bank, phlebotomy and other ancillary services to respond quickly, coordinate across departments and care for multiple critically injured patients.

Exercises like this take place several times each year to strengthen teamwork and readiness. It’s part of our commitment to ensure that when our community needs us most, the people, skills and systems are already in place.

50 Years, One Incredible Career 👏

Behind every lab result is a patient waiting for answers, and often a family hoping for good news. For 50 years, Paula Bouffard has understood just how much those moments matter.

A laboratory technician at Central Maine Medical Center, Paula has spent five decades working behind the scenes to help deliver the information providers and families rely on every day.

An Auburn native, Paula first joined the hospital while she was still a student at the University of Maine, when CMMC was known as Central Maine General Hospital. Over the years, she has seen the hospital grow, the lab move locations, and technology transform the way lab work is done.

But one thing has stayed the same: Paula’s belief that even the quiet work done in the lab can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

Thank you, Paula, for 50 years of dedication to our patients, families, and community. 💙

Thank a Resident Day 🩺

Residency means long hours, constant learning, and stepping into big responsibilities. Our residents do it with focus, professionalism, and care for our patients and community.

Did you know CMMC has had a Family Medicine Residency Program for more than four decades? Over that time, we’ve graduated more than 200 family medicine providers who have gone on to make a lasting impact in healthcare.

If a resident has cared for you or your family, taken the time to answer questions, or simply made a tough day easier, take a moment today to say thank you. 🫶

⭐ Savannah Hart is a SuperSTAR ⭐

Savannah, a patient safety attendant, was recently recognized with a SuperSTAR Award after being nominated by Laura LaBrecque.

She shows up for her patients in the small but meaningful ways like cutting up a meal, getting everything set just right, sitting and talking when someone feels lonely or unsettled. She does it naturally and without hesitation.

Savannah is positive, steady, a teammate you can count on, and we’re grateful she’s part of our team.
