🎃 SAFETY TIPS | Pumpkin carving season is here! Before you dive into creating your spooky masterpiece, keep these safety tips in mind:

🔪 Use the right tools – Pumpkin carving kits are safer than kitchen knives.
✋ Carve away from yourself – Always cut with controlled, downward motions.
🕯️ Light it safely – Swap candles for LED lights to avoid burns or fire hazards.
👀 Supervise kids – Let them draw the design and scoop out the seeds, while adults handle the carving.

Stay safe, keep your fingers injury-free, and have a gourd-geous Halloween! 🎃

DID YOU KNOW? | Crossing your legs often can impact knee health!

While sitting with your legs crossed might feel comfy, it could lead to issues like pressure on the kneecap and muscle imbalances. If you habitually cross your legs, consider switching it—try sitting with both feet flat on the floor to help maintain alignment!

If you're dealing with knee discomfort, request an appointment with one of our knee specialists!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | “Dr. Hansen did my hip replacement in June. It was a great experience (as surgeries go :-)), and now, about two months later, my hip feels better than normal. I'm amazed. Not only is he competent and knowledgeable in the latest, most advanced technologies, he cares about his patients. This is so important. Both my son and I have seen medical professionals at Lewiston Orthopedics, and I'm extremely impressed with everyone we've seen. Thank you!" –Sarah G.

ROTATOR CUFF TEARS | Why are they common sports injuries?

The rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilizes the shoulder joint, plays a crucial role in sports involving repetitive overhead movements, like throwing, serving, or swinging. Think baseball pitchers, tennis players, and swimmers. ⚾️🎾🏊‍ They all subject their shoulder joints to significant stress, causing microtears and damage over time.

Moreover, contact sports, such as football, basketball, and volleyball, also contribute to the prevalence of rotator cuff tears. 🏈🏀🏐 With frequent collisions, falls, and tackles, athletes in these sports face a higher risk of experiencing acute rotator cuff injuries. Additionally, intense training without adequate recovery, overexertion, and lack of a proper warm-up and conditioning can further weaken the shoulder muscles, increasing susceptibility to injury during gameplay.

To safeguard against these painful injuries, athletes must prioritize warm-up routines, strength training, and proper technique.

If you've suffered a rotator cuff tear, request an appointment with one of our highly trained sports medicine specialists to get back in the game!
