The holidays are filled with festive cheer – and often, a drink or two. But did you know that even a small amount of alcohol can be harmful to your health, impacting your brain, sleep and increasing cancer risk?

Medical professionals remind us that decision-making can quickly go downhill, leading to accidents and regrets.

If you do choose to drink, make sure to eat, hydrate (one glass of water for every drink!) and most importantly, always arrange a safe ride home.

Alcoholic drinks are highly common during the holiday season. And while moderation is a good rule of thumb, doctors say any amount of alcohol should be considered toxic.

Idaho’s dry climate gets even tougher in winter, making proper skin care more important than ever! Cold air, wind and indoor heating can strip moisture from your skin, leaving it prone to cracking and infection.

Medical professionals remind us that dry skin isn’t just uncomfortable – it can lead to serious health risks. Daily moisturizing, especially on exposed areas like your hands and face, is key, as is protecting your skin and eyes with sunscreen and sunglasses during outdoor activities.

Save the date! Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday—a worldwide celebration of generosity where small acts of kindness create meaningful change in our communities. In the spirit of the season, we’re sharing Hannah Murphy's story. Hannah is a Regence employee committed to giving back through volunteerism right here in Idaho.

It all began with an invitation to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Boise.

"Seeing how this cause was so meaningful to my colleague made it important to me," says Hannah. "Helping others naturally brings people together and deepens how we understand each other."

That experience sparked Hannah's ongoing involvement in volunteer programs led by our corporate foundation, including cooking breakfast for Ronald McDonald House families and building weekend meal backpacks for kids at Idaho Food Bank.

"I was reminded how privileged I am," Hannah says. "Understanding that you're ensuring kids have weekend meals puts your heart into the work and keeps you going."

Tomorrow also marks the beginning of our annual employee giving campaign where our corporate foundation empowers employees to give back to causes that matter most to them. How will you give back on Giving Tuesday?

Such a delight to see the Treasure Valley community come together for the Holiday Tree Lighting at the Grove Plaza in downtown Boise. And what a privilege it was for Regence to join Boise Cascade in sponsoring the candle booths that added an extra glow to the annual event. A sea of lighted candles surrounding a massive twinkling tree, coupled with the air filled with music and the encouraging words of community leaders made for a memorable kick-off to the holiday season. Thanks to all who came together to share the experience!

The recent passing of former Vice President Dick Cheney from pneumonia is a powerful reminder of how serious this disease can be – claiming about 40,000 lives in the U.S. every year. Pneumonia puts older adults and those with lung conditions at especially high risk.

Want to protect yourself and your loved ones? Don't smoke, stay up-to-date on vaccines and consider wearing a mask in crowded places if you're at higher risk. Early prevention and awareness can make all the difference.

Recent high-profile deaths attributed to pneumonia are shining a light on the disease. It's mostly caused by bacteria, and if it gets out of control, it can be extremely dangerous.
