Today is one of those days that can feel heavy in a way that’s hard to explain.
Thanksgiving is supposed to be about family, connection, and togetherness — but for a lot of people in recovery, it also brings up loneliness, old memories, and the ache of where we thought we “should” be by now.

That loneliness isn’t just about being alone.
It’s about feeling like you’re watching the world from the outside.
It’s about sitting with the quiet moments your old coping skills used to fill.
It’s about choosing recovery even when it feels like everyone else has someone to lean on.

But here’s the truth we need to remind ourselves of:

Loneliness doesn’t mean I’m failing.
It means I’m finally facing life instead of numbing it.
It means I’m growing through things I used to run from.
It means I’m choosing the harder, healthier path — even when nobody sees it.

Recovery asks us to sit with feelings we used to avoid.
It asks us to build new traditions, new support, new routines.
It asks us to believe that the future can look different from the past.

And honestly?
Some days, that’s lonely.
Some days, it hurts.

If you’re reading this and feeling the same way, I hope you know you should be proud of yourself!!!

Not everyone will understand the quiet battles you fight.
Not everyone sees the strength it takes to stay sober, stay present, stay committed, especially on the days when loneliness creeps in.

But those in recovery feel it.
And they keep going anyway.

So today, on Thanksgiving, I’m holding space for gratitude… but I’m also holding space for honesty.

Gratitude for how far you’ve come.
Honesty about how hard it still can be.
Hope that next year, the loneliness feels a little lighter.
And strength in knowing that choosing recovery today is something to be deeply, deeply proud of.

If today is tough for you too, you’re not alone.

I see you.
And I’m rooting for you!
