When we opened our Playhouse, we envisioned a space where all of our Tiny Tots could come together to play, learn, and have fun.

We are so excited to introduce our first Sensory-Sensitive Open Play Hour on January 14th!

We will be offering two 1-hour sessions, hosted in partnership with our friends from All God’s Children Pediatric Therapy.

Our mission is to create a calm, welcoming environment with additional supports and resources for children with sensory sensitivities, so every child can enjoy playtime in a way that feels comfortable and safe.

Reservations are required in advance, as space will be smaller and more limited to help maintain a sensory-friendly environment.

Want to try this OT activity at home? Here’s an easy, low-mess sensory bin that builds fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and playful problem-solving—all while “baking” pretend apple pies!

What You’ll Need

Green & red pom poms → apples

Brown pom poms → walnuts

Oatmeal → pie filling base

Cinnamon sticks → extra sensory fun

Sandpaper cut into circles → pie crust

Muffin tins or small pie tins

Simple recipe cards (optional)

How to Play

1. Scoop & search: Have your child dig through the oatmeal to “collect apples and walnuts.”

2. Pinch & place: Encourage picking up pom poms with fingers or tongs to place into tins.

3. Add the crust: Lay the sandpaper “crust” over the top for some extra tactile feedback.

4. Follow the recipe: Kids can sequence steps using a simple visual recipe card.

5. Serve & pretend: Let them proudly present their “pies”—the pretend play builds language and creativity!

This activity provides rich sensory input while strengthening the hands and helping little bakers follow directions… all disguised as PLAY. 🍎✨
