Meet our newest student to join the team, Abby! Abby is currently a first-year medical student at the University of Kentucky, originally from Paducah, KY. She graduated from Murray State last spring with a Bachelor’s in Pre-Medicine Biology. She spent some time during her undergraduate education as a nursing assistant in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. Those experiences solidified her interest in medicine and Alzheimer’s and Dementia research, specifically the behavioral aspects of the disease. Welcome to the team, Abby!

Meet our lab's newest post-baccalaureate trainee, Andrea Hernandez Gonzalez! She began her education at Bluegrass Community and Technical College then transferred to the University of Kentucky where she completed her B.A. in Biology and Neuroscience. She is passionate about science, education, and public health and hopes to become a physician and devote her career to improving health in communities across Kentucky. Welcome Andrea!

We'd like to welcome our new fellow, Riya Patel, to our lab! Riya is a first-year medical student at UK and has always been drawn to medicine; she was inspired by her past participation in the SPARK Program and internships at the Markey Cancer Center, where she learned about health equity and how different patient populations face different challenges on their path to optimal health. This past Wednesday, the Omega Psi Phi fraternity here in Lexington hosted their annual health event at the Black & Williams Neighborhood Center! University of Kentucky neuropsychologist, Dr. Willie McBride, gave a presentation on the differences between brain health and mental health, and representatives from the UK Neurology department offered free health screens. Catering was provided by DV8 Kitchen.

Thank you to Omega Psi Phi for all the great things you’re doing in the community! We’re so grateful that we here at the Engaged Aging Lab got to be a part of it.
