Ear infection #4?
We had a mom come in this week, exhausted, with an antibiotic prescription she wasn’t sure she wanted to fill again. Her 1 year old had been on antibiotics three times in three months.
Mom was desperate and looking for a more holistic option and really wanted to prevent ear tubes if she could. Her friend sent her to us after their child stopped having ear infections since starting Chiro care.
This happens in the office so often and this is what we talk about with parents…
In little ones, the ear canal drains differently than adults. It’s more horizontal, which means fluid gets trapped easier. Add in any tension in the upper cervical spine — from birth, a tumble, or just normal toddler chaos — and that drainage gets even more sluggish because it creates a “kink in the hose,” or that drainage pathway.
We’re not “treating” the ear infection. We’re checking for joint restriction or soft tissue tension in the upper neck and cranium that could be interfering with how well the nervous system is functioning, because it controls muscles & structures that help the ears open, drain, and regulate pressure.
✨When that tension releases, fluid clears=Fewer recurrent infections=Less reliance on back-to-back antibiotics✨
It is gentle? Yes, we use the amount of pressure to check a peach for ripeness or an activator to provide a gentle and specific adjustment.
Is it magic? No, it’s evidence-based…(even though our parents swear it’s magic🤷🏻♀️.)
Is it right for every child? We’d need to assess that together as well as a treatment plan. (Don’t get us wrong, there’s a place and time for antibiotics and tubes but we try to prevent it.)
Is it worth a conversation before ear tube surgery? For most parents it is🙏
If your kiddo has had recurrent ear infections, there could be a better option.
And if there’s a deeper rooted cause, we’ll help you find it and send you to the appropriate provider-i.e airway issues, oral dysfunction, histamine issues/allergies, etc.
Your child’s body was designed to heal — sometimes it just needs the right support 🤍
