Real progress in mental health happens when voices are heard, stories are shared, and advocacy leads the way.

It was inspiring to hear from Chief Justice Debra Lambert, detail the importance of the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health , Rep. Kim Moser, and other dedicated state leaders who are advancing meaningful change and strengthening support for our communities.

If you are in the Paintsville area, stop by and check out Kenna's Creative Canvas. She does amazing art classes and projects in the studio. We can't wait for our next opportunity to create with Kenna!

A Note from My Heart to Yours 🎨
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on the journey of Kenna’s Creative Canvas Studio, Paintsville, KY. As many of you know, last year was incredibly difficult. After two years of pouring my soul into my Prestonsburg studio, the February 2025 flood forced me to close those doors for good. A year ago today I was exhausted, emotional and unsure of my dream's future.

In the months following the closure, I heard a phrase that stuck with me: “Oh no! I always meant to check it out,” or “I was just planning on signing up for a class.”
It broke my heart—not because I was upset with anyone, but because it highlighted a quiet reality for small businesses.

Small businesses don't have the "safety net" of a giant corporation. A large portion of my clients were traveling from out of town, some from out of state to see me, while neighbors were waiting for "next time."

Here is the truth about how you can keep a dream alive:

The $15 Class or Kit: That single purchase doesn't just buy supplies; it pays the light bill for another day.

The "Later" Logic: One person saying "I'll go later" is fine. But 50 people saying "I'll go later" can be the difference between a business staying open or closing its doors.

The Power of a Click: If you can't spend money, a like, comment, or share costs $0 but puts my work in front of someone who might be ready to book today.

If there is a local spot you love—whether it’s mine or the coffee shop down the street—don't wait for "someday." Support them today. You have no idea how much your $15 or your Facebook share truly matters to the person behind the counter.

Thank you for being part of my journey and helping me rebuild.
With grit and gratitude,
Kenna

No young person should feel like they have to face hard moments alone. NAMI encourages youth to reach out to a trusted adult when they need support and to use the resource guide to find help, information, and safe people to talk to. Asking for help is a strong first step toward taking care of your mental health.

Kentucky schools are serving more students with complex health needs than ever, yet districts continue to face major gaps in staffing, reimbursement, and capacity. HB583 offers a targeted set of improvements to help districts draw down available federal Medicaid dollars, support school nurses and mental health providers, and expand access to preventive services… all without requiring any additional state match to draw down more federal reimbursement.

Women's History Month is a time to celebrate the strength, leadership, and lasting impact of women throughout history. Leaders like Martha Layne Collins, Kentucky’s first woman governor, broke barriers in public service and economic development, paving the way for future generations. Trailblazers such as Susan B. Anthony fought tirelessly for women’s right to vote, shaping the course of American democracy. Women continue to lead with vision and determination in every field, inspiring progress in their communities and beyond.
