Mayor Linda Gorton declared a State of Emergency today, which will fully activate the city’s Emergency Operations Center, and place our public safety divisions on 24-hour schedules through Tuesday morning.
The snow emergency declaration bans parking on snow emergency routes, which are major streets through the city and are marked by signage. Residents should move their cars and avoid parking on these roads to avoid getting towed.
Streets & Roads and Water Quality have been out pre-treating roads and will continue, as needed, through the evening in preparation for this winter weather event. Snowfall is expected to last 24-30 hours. During this extended period of precipitation, crews, along with contractors, will remain on duty clearing roads, per the city’s snow plan.
Here are a couple of other reminders as we head into this weekend:
- Residents should be advised that the effectiveness of salt declines when temperatures drop below 20 degrees. - Help make room for snow plows by keeping your cars off the street.
