Open Doors Counseling is proud to welcome Roger Smith, LCSW (Supervisor), a seasoned behavioral health professional with nearly 25 years of direct experience in psychiatry and mental health care. Roger joins our team following a distinguished career with Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, where he served in a leadership role overseeing psychiatric services and helping shape compassionate, effective care delivery across the region.

A native of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, Roger brings not only clinical expertise but also a deep, personal understanding of the communities we serve. His work has long been grounded in the belief that access to quality behavioral health care is essential—especially for individuals and families in marginalized and underserved populations. He recognizes the unique challenges faced by those with limited access to care and is committed to meeting people where they are, both culturally and geographically.

Roger is now accepting new clients for therapy as well as comprehensive mental health assessments, including evaluations for diagnosis and program eligibility. He offers services through convenient Telehealth options, expanding access for individuals who may otherwise face barriers to receiving care.

At Open Doors Counseling, we are honored to have Roger as part of our mission-driven team. His dedication, experience, and compassion reflect our commitment to serving those who need it most—and to opening doors to healing, growth, and hope.

Please contact us at office@opendoorscounselingctr.com or (606) 776-6185 to schedule with him.

Transgender Day of Visibility reminds us to pause in gratitude for the courage it takes to live authentically, for the beauty of self-discovery, and for every individual who chooses to show up as their true self in a world that doesn’t always make it easy.

Visibility is not just about being seen. It’s about being honored, respected, and supported. We are deeply grateful for the trust the state of Kentucky places in us, and we remain committed to creating a space where authenticity is not only welcomed, but celebrated.

Remember, your existence is powerful, your identity is valid, and your story matters. Today and every day, we see you. We celebrate you. And we stand with you.
