❤️ Heart Talk with Your Hometown Pharmacist
Today’s spotlight: ACE Inhibitors
ACE inhibitors are commonly used to help relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure. When blood vessels aren’t as tight, the heart doesn’t have to work as hard — helping protect it long-term, even when you don’t feel noticeable changes day to day.
🧡 How they help:
• Relax blood vessels
• Lower blood pressure
• Reduce strain on the heart
• Support kidney health (especially in patients with diabetes)
You may recognize names like:
Lisinopril (Prinivil® / Zestril®), Enalapril (Vasotec®), Benazepril (Lotensin®), Ramipril (Altace®), and Captopril (Capoten®).
👀 Heart fact:
ACE inhibitors help block a hormone in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten — allowing blood to flow more easily.
💊 Pharmacist tip:
A dry cough is one of the more common side effects with this class. If that happens, call your doctor or your pharmacist to talk through next steps. There are often alternative options that work just as well.
