The Rockbridge Area Health Center is a designated Qualified Community Health Center providing comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare to adults and children and serves insured, uninsured, Medicaid and Medicare patients. At Rockbridge Area Health Center, our heartbeat is fueled by people.

It’s the Transportation Provider driving a patient to their appointment. It’s the Vendor ensuring supplies arrive on time. It’s the Donor and Sponsor making sure we never have to say "no" to a neighbor in need.

It’s our First Responders, Elected Officials, and Public Partners working alongside our incredible Staff, Volunteers, and Providers to create a safety net for our community.

Our Buena Vista medical and dental offices will remain closed due to icy conditions. Appointments will be consolidated to our Lexington location. We will notify anyone with an appointment in Buena Vista of the appointment location change.

Thank you to the The News-Gazette for covering the installation of our new 3D Panorex imaging machine. This new technology enables RAHC's dental team to perform more complex procedures in-house, eliminating the need for patient referrals to specialists located hours away. This removes significant transportation and time barriers that previously caused many to delay or forgo necessary dental care.

Special thanks to Delta Dental of Virginia for grant funding making this acquisition possible!

🎉🎉 New year, new gear! 🎉🎉

We're starting the new year with a major upgrade to our dental services, thanks to the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation!

Their generous grant enabled us to purchase a new 3-D Panorex x-ray machine. Every patient will benefit from this state-of-the-art technology, offering the highest-quality imaging available today.

For patients requiring complex dental procedures, this could potentially save them a three-hour trip to a referred specialist.

We recognize that travel time and transportation can be significant barriers to care. This new technology helps prevent patients from skipping or delaying essential treatment by allowing care to be provided right here in our dental clinic.

"Having this level of advanced technology in a rural setting is a game-changer,” said Director of Dental Services, Dr. Stuart Fargiano. “I've seen patients put off necessary treatment simply because the idea of a three-hour drive was too much to manage. This machine removes that barrier. It's about more than just convenience; it's about providing timely, high-quality care and taking that travel-related stress completely out of the equation for our community.”

The grant also funded three new X-ray machines for our Buena Vista clinic, delivering higher-quality images.

This upgrade was a long time coming, and we are excited to share our new technology with the community. Thank you, Dental of Virginia Foundation, for making this vision a reality!

Our offices are closed in observance of the New Year holiday. Our Lexington office will reopen on Friday, January 2, 2026. RAHC - Buena Vista will reopen on Monday, January 5, and Mountain View Family Dentistry will reopen on January 12, 2026.

Our Story

The Rockbridge Area Health Center is a designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and provides comprehensive primary and preventive health care to adults and children and serves insured, uninsured, under-insured, Medicaid and Medicare patients.

As a community health center, RAHC is a private, local, non-profit organization that provides health care services to residents of a geographic area that is medically underserved. Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) transitioned to a community health center in 2014 and serves anyone, regardless of ability to pay. Providing medical, dental, and behavioral health services under one roof, the health center’s mission has remained the same since opening its doors in 1992; to promote and provide access to comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable health care to improve the health and well-being of the community.

To meet the growing needs of the community, a $6.6 million building expansion was completed in 2019 that more than doubled the facility’s size, from a single floor of 9,000 sq. ft. to approximately 24,000 sq. ft. of space on two floors. The more spacious facility allows for greater access to primary medical care, such as family and internal medicine, by increasing the number of exam rooms from six to twelve, and to dental services by increasing the number of operatories from four to eight. Other services provided include pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, preventive care, and behavioral health services.
