The Harris Center for Psychological Services

The Harris Center provides affordable, high quality mental health services to campus & community. We will assess your needs at the consultation.

Scheduling an Appointment
To make an appointment for an initial consultation for yourself or your child, please call (859) 257-6853. If you are accepted for services, an appropriate therapist will be assigned to you.

Therapists at the Harris Center are advanced doctoral students in clinical psychology at the University of Kentucky. All therapists are supervised by licensed psychologists.

Confidentiality
Client records and other information are managed at the center with the strictest confidentiality. No information will be transmitted to any other individual or agency without the express permission of the client, except as required by law.

Fees
The fee for the initial consultation is $20. Fees for therapy and testing services vary depending on the service provided. Acceptance for treatment is not based on ability to pay for services. A sliding fee scale is available based on income and family size. Credit and debit cards are accepted. Please contact the center for details about specific fees.

SERVICES OFFERED

Individual Therapy
The Harris Center offers individual psychotherapy for adults, children and couples. Psychiatric consultation to assess need for medication is also available. Treatment is provided for a full range of issues, including but not limited to:
Anxiety
Depression
Insomnia
Eating Disorders
Stress management
Anger management
Trauma
Grief and loss
Adjustment and life stage difficulties
Parenting
Child and adult ADHD
Family conflicts
Child behavior problems
Social skills deficits
School difficulties
Child and adult learning disabilities
Couples' conflicts
Diversity issues

Groups for Adults
DBT Skills Training Group
Focus: Coping skills training for persons with borderline personality disorder, based on Linehan's dialectical behavior therapy model. Format: Weekly sessions for one year for adults. Content: Topics include regulating emotions, being more effective in relationships, and dealing with stressful situations. Sessions consist of lectures, discussion, and homework activities. Classes for Children

Intellectual and personality assessments for both adults and children may be obtained at the center. Assessments of learning disabilities and attention deficit/hyperactivity are also available. Assessments range in price from $450 to $500. UK staff and students are eligible for a 10% discount on assessment services. Please call (859) 257-6853 for more information.

Hi everyone! My name is Aaliyah Melendez and I am one of the undergraduate clinical assistants at the Harris Center at the University of Kentucky!

This year, I have had the wonderful opportunity to assist both in clinic and behind the scenes on social media. Mental health is something that deeply matters to me and being able to work in a therapy setting while helping promote awareness has been such a rewarding experience

After I graduate this spring I plan to work as a clinical or research assistant as I am working towards my masters in clinical mental health to become a licensed therapist and I hope to work in pediatrics. I am so excited to continue learning and and growing in this field!

The Harris Center is the training clinic for the University of Kentucky’s Clinical Psychology PhD Program. Since 1976, we have provided low-cost, high-quality mental health care to the Lexington community and can now offer some of our services across Kentucky through Telehealth.

We believe that everyone deserves access to excellent, evidence-based mental health services, regardless of identity, background, or their ability to pay.

As a training clinic, our capacity is limited and wait times can vary, but if we are not the right fit for you, we will help connect you with other community resources that can better assist your needs.

My name is Amanda Woolum, and I have the pleasure to assist the Harris Center at UK this academic school year. I get to help in several ways both at our clinic and through our social media accounts. Mental health is something that largely matters to me, so being able to work in the therapy setting and promoting awareness has been an awesome experience! After I graduate this spring I plan to work in research and apply to graduate school in pursuit of conducting research on substance use disorder. I am very passionate about reducing the stigma around drug use and hope to become a therapist for people seeking treatment!”
