Elaine Jeffers Hearn
May 5, 1944 – April 3, 2026

Elaine Jeffers Hearn, lovingly known as “Mama” and “Mammaw,” passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026 — Good Friday — surrounded by her daughters, grandchildren, and other family members.

Born on May 5, 1944, Elaine lived a life defined not by titles or recognition, but by the quiet, consistent way she showed up for the people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Price; her parents, Joseph and Zora Jeffers; her brothers, Ronald Jeffers and Murray Jeffers; and her grandson, Bradley Studebaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Deidre Payne (Tom), Ronda Collins (Bruce), and Tisha Smith (James), along with their families; her sister, Patsy Jones, and her brother, Thomas Jeffers.

Elaine was a very proud and devoted grandmother to Bryan Studebaker (Kelly), Brandon Studebaker (Emily), Brent Studebaker (Meghan), Brooke Studebaker, Meagan Salonich, Joshua Collins (Kaitlan), Paige Connor (Lawton), Joseph Collins (Allie), Gavin Smith (Matthew), and Grayson Smith (Sarah Grace); and a loving great-grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren.

To know Elaine was to know someone who gave freely of herself. She was selfless in a way that can’t be taught — always putting others before herself, always making time, and always showing up.

Elaine lived a life defined by strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly — including many years as a waitress at Lizard’s Thicket — always ensuring her daughters had everything they needed. She carried herself with grace, met every season of life with kindness and strength, and loved in a way that few ever could.

She had a deep love for the simple things in life. She loved the beach — the sound of the waves, the feeling of being near the water — and she rarely passed up a good cup of coffee. She enjoyed shopping for a good bargain, finding joy in the hunt just as much as the find. She loved to paint, to read, and to keep up with her favorite soap operas — small routines that brought her comfort and happiness.

But more than anything, she loved spending time with her family.

She never missed a moment that mattered. From ballgames to holidays to everyday visits, Elaine made it a priority to be present. Her grandchildren knew they could count on her — not just for the big events, but for the quiet, in-between moments that meant just as much.

She had a way of making people feel cared for without ever making a big show of it. It was in the phone calls, the check-ins, and the time she gave without hesitation.

That was who she was.

Her family will remember her for her warmth, her steadiness, and the way she made a house feel like home — often bringing a small gift, thoughtfully chosen and signed on the back, “Love, Mammaw Elaine,” each time she visited.

Though she will be deeply missed, her presence lives on in the way her family loves one another — in the way they show up, just as she always did.

A service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held in the Chapel at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home in Lexington on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1:00pm. A private interment will follow at the West Side Baptist Church cemetery.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Emergency Department, the Critical Care Unit, and the staff of 9th Oncology at Lexington Medical Center, as well as Medical Services of America (MSA), for the care, compassion, and dignity shown to Elaine and to their family during her final days. In a time filled with uncertainty and heartache, your kindness brought comfort, peace, and reassurance that she was never alone.

Though her absence will be deeply felt, the impact Elaine made on those around her will continue to be seen in the way her family loves one another, cares for others, and shows up in the moments that matter most. Her life was a quiet example of what it means to give fully, love deeply, and put others first — and that example will continue to guide those who knew her for many years to come.

James Stewart Hull
November 21, 1937 – March 13, 2026

James Stewart Hull passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born November 21, 1937, a son of the late Ernest S. Hull and Josephine Boudoine, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was their fourth child, following sisters, Doris and Gene and brother Kenneth. Jim and his siblings grew up in Commerce Township, MI.

Jim received a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University (MSU) in 1959 and entered the US Navy as an Underwater Demolition Officer and then proudly served as the Officer of the Deck as an Ensign on the USS Forrestal. During his 3 years of Service, he married MSU classmate, Linda (1937-1976), and welcomed a son, Arnold Stewart Hull (1960-2026). Both have preceded Jim in death.

Following his Honorable Discharge, Jim and his family returned to the Detroit area where he established a career producing hydraulics during the ‘70s and ‘80s in support of the manufacturing and automotive industries. He became the co-owner and CEO of Flint based Melvin Corp., which he rebranded as Automatic Hydraulic Systems. Jim had a work-hard, play-hard ethic. He spent much of his down-time having family BBQs and weekends in his northern Michigan cabin, walking in the woods and snowmobiling.

Widower since 1976, Jim then met Irene Bager in 1980 and after a 10-year courtship, they married in 1990. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Irene Bager Hull, daughter-in-law, Lynn Hull of Waterford, MI, 3 stepsons and their families: Greg Bager (Arlene) of Largo, FL, Scott Bager (Shelley) of Lexington, SC, and Edmund Bager (Jill) of Midland, NC. Pines, NC/Lexington, SC.

Jim lived a life full of enthusiastic pursuits with his extended family. His Navy experience instilled a penchant for the sea and travel. He became an avid power boater on Detroit’s Lake St. Clair which evolved into the challenge of sailing. Jim’s boat, Hull’s Gull, sailed all but Lake Superior in the Great Lakes. In 1988, he and Irene moved from their Michigan home in the most unique of ways – They lived aboard Hull’s Gull and sailed from the Great Lakes to Florida via the St. Lawerence Seaway and Atlantic seaboard.

Jim and Irene made Florida homes in Nettles Island, Jupiter and Stuart. They finally settled in Lexington, SC in 2022.

Jim obviously enjoyed traveling and drove his motor home from Florida to MSU homecomings and onward through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the major national parks and Mexico. He also enjoyed motor cycling year-round in Florida.

Other interests included real-estate marketing, fishing, hosting cookouts and dinner parties, rescuing pets and spending time with his family. He was accomplished at home improvement projects, mechanical maintenance, and often would fix things whether they needed fixing or not.

All along his journey he was surrounded by friends and family. Jim’s wish was for everyone in their combined families to be able to enjoy a full life of work and fun. In that spirit, he always led by example.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - in Lexington, SC with Chaplin Charles Byrd officiating.

Wayne Gilbert Damron
November 30, 1937 – April 1, 2026

Wayne Gilbert Damron, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Aiken, South Carolina, with his wife, Barbara, holding his hand.
He was born on November 30, 1937, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Mafalda Damario Barden. Wayne attended Westfield High School, where he played football and ran track, beginning a lifelong love of running.

Following graduation, Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army. He attended paratrooper school with the 82nd Airborne Division, completing over 100 jumps. He went on to attend Officer Candidate School, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant at just 19 years old and later achieving the rank of First Lieutenant before continuing his education at the University of South Carolina.

It was at the University of South Carolina that Wayne met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married for nearly 65 years and built a life together in Denver, Colorado; Jacksonville, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, before settling in Columbia, South Carolina, Together, they shared a deep love for the University of South Carolina, proudly continuing her parents’ support of the Gamecocks for over 50 years as dedicated members of the Gamecock Club.

Wayne enjoyed a successful career of more than 20 years in the insurance industry, beginning with Paul Revere, where he rose to the position of Regional Vice President. He later retired as a Managing Partner with New York Life.

A lifelong runner, Wayne completed 15 marathons and more than 300 road races, including over 20 Peachtree Road Races in Atlanta. Many of these miles were shared with his favorite running partners—his sons, Steve and Rick.

Wayne’s passion for coins grew into a remarkable second career. His deep knowledge of biblical coins made him a sought-after speaker, and he delivered hundreds of presentations to churches, civic organizations, and schools. He later owned and operated Clein’s Rare Coins in Augusta, Georgia, from 2000 to 2014, retiring once again after many fulfilling years.

Wayne was also known affectionately as the “Merry Christmas Man.” At a time when many had shifted to saying “Happy Holidays,” Wayne would reply “We say Merry Christmas.” At his son Steve’s suggestion, he began sharing this message through bumper stickers and car magnets, distributing more than 33,000 free of charge across several states.

Faith was central to Wayne’s life. He and Barbara were longtime members of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia before joining Aiken’s First Baptist Church. Thomas Hoffman
June 16, 1956 – March 31, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas J Hoffman, 69 of Lexington, SC. Tom was born on June 16, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Calvin and Mary Hoffman.

Tom graduated from General Motors Institute in 1979 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He attained an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. at Indiana University.

In 1985, Tom married his wife of 40 years, Elaine Pritchard. They moved to South Bend, Indiana where Tom worked for Bosch (Allied Signal) as a Product Development Manager for anti-lock brakes. After 11 years and two daughters, the family moved to Farmington, Connecticut. Tom worked for United Technologies Corp. – first at Otis Elevator, then at Carrier Corporation, where he travelled the world as Vice President of Global Engineering until he retired in 2012. He made so many amazing friends and colleagues.

Tom’s passion was spending time with his wife, Elaine, and daughters, Jillian and Lauren, sailing on the Great Lakes and Long Island Sound. He loved riding snowmobiles, home improvement projects, animals of all kinds and had 6 cats, a dog, and guinea pigs throughout his life that he absolutely adored, was a voracious reader, and he was the ultimate “car guy” – especially muscle cars (Corvette) and enjoyed all types of auto racing.

Tom’s greatest love was his family. Elaine was his best friend, and they lived every day to the fullest, whether it be adventuring to Paris, France, sailing the ocean on a cruise ship, spending a morning at the zoo, or enjoying a sunny afternoon planting flowers at home. Tom’s greatest gift was that he could make even the most seemingly small moment joyful. He was endlessly proud of his daughters and was the ultimate “girl dad.” He was blessed with the ability to make everyone he loved feel seen; he found inherent joy in making sure they were always well cared for. Tom was a ceaseless champion for his family, seeking to ensure his girls always felt loved, understood their worth, broke barriers, and thrived. He was their leader and rock.

He was a proud University of South Carolina Gamecock fan attending football, baseball and women’s basketball games at the University. The family enjoyed an annual trip to Pittsburgh for Steelers football and Penguins hockey games.

He loved to travel with the family and spend time at the family get-away home in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Tom never met a stranger and service to others brought him fulfillment. He had an unwavering, lifelong devotion to God and was an active participant in the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and EmmanuWheel ramp building team at Mt. Horeb Methodist Church where he was a member.

Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine (Pritchard) Hoffman; his daughters, Lieutenant Commander Jillian Hoffman (Joseph Naylor) of Lyndhurst, Ohio and Lauren Hoffman of Jacksonville, Florida; his sisters, JoAnne Pritchard, and Cathy Trussler.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 503 N. Lake Dr., Lexington, SC 29072. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pet’s Inc P.O. Box 6394, West Columbia, SC 29169 or any worthy charity of your choice which honors his memory.
