George Woodrow "Trey" Stoudemire III
February 26, 1970 – October 20, 2025

The Lexington community mourns the loss of one of its notable and well-loved residents. On October 20th, 2025, George Woodrow “Trey” Stoudemire III passed away at the age of 55. The sudden and unforeseen nature of his death is met with disbelief and great sorrow. Trey was deeply devoted to his family and friends and will always be remembered as a caring husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend.

Trey’s trademark was his incredible smile. Known as the life of the party, he brought cheer and laughter to any gathering. Due to his good-nature and jovial personality, strangers quickly became friends. Trey’s generosity and willingness to help others were evident in every aspect of his life. Whether lending a hand to someone in need or sharing words of encouragement, his kindness touched countless lives.

Trey was born in Stuttgart, Germany during his father's military service. Proud of his German roots, he enjoyed Oktoberfest and often made many new friends at these celebrations. Revisiting his birthplace as a young man was one of his most cherished experiences.

Trey’s adventurous spirit led him to be an avid and exceptional hunter and fisherman. His hunting skills were fostered at a young age by his grandfather, Robert Lindler. He became a skilled angler under the guidance of his “Pop,” Woody Stoudemire. One of his most notable experiences was a big game hunting excursion in South Africa.

During his youth, he and his father engaged in various pursuits together, including quail hunting within the state and goose hunting in Maryland. He once traversed a drained pond to successfully snag an eight-pound bass with a net. Additionally, he enjoyed regularly watching and attending NASCAR events.

Married for twenty years, Trey met the love of his life, Phillis, on a blind date. Upon their marriage, Trey became a nurturing stepfather to Jason and Ricky. In 2008, the family was blessed with the birth of their son, Robbie. As a loving family man, Sunday dinners were a regular event that he always looked forward to. Often, he would bake his renowned rum cake to everyone’s delight.

As lovers of the local music scene, Trey and Phillis attended numerous concerts and festivals in the area; usually accompanied by their dear friends Bubba and Monica Cooper. They were quite a foursome. Trey’s love of music began in the Lexington High School chorus and as a performer with the Golden Blues. Few knew he could actually sing and dance!

Trey was employed with Beverage South as a sales representative doing what he loved; visiting his clients who all affectionately knew him as the Red Bull man. He earned salesman of the year twice and won numerous salesman of the month awards.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dale Lindler Stoudemire, his aunt, Ellen Stoudemire, and his brother-in-law, Johnny Stasney. Trey is survived by his loving wife, Phillis Stevens Stoudemire; his son, Robert “Robbie” Woodrow Stoudemire; his stepsons, Jason and Ricky Geddings; his father, George Woodrow Stoudemire, Jr.; his sisters, Amy Stoudemire and Erin Whitehead (Brian); his sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Rodgers (Andrew) and Allyson Stasney; Shirley Amick, who held a special place in his life, and Bubba, whom he considered a brother; as well as numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family offers their sincerest gratitude to all those who reached out in so many ways. Your acts of kindness and prayers offered much comfort and were greatly appreciated.

Trey will be remembered for always being himself. Unlike many who try on different personalities, he never wanted to be anyone but himself. It has been said: “To thine own self be true, and it will follow that thou cannot be false to any Man.” Rest in peace and may you have many more adventures until we meet again.

Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 2 PM - 5 PM at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel. A private graveside service will take place, and we ask for your understanding and support during this difficult time.

Ellie Rose Spurr
December 6, 2021 – October 22, 2025

Our hearts are forever broken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our precious daughter, Ellie Rose Spurr. Though only three years old, Ellie filled every moment of her life with boundless joy, curiosity, and love.

She was the cherished daughter of Robyn Greif and Charles Spurr and the beloved little sister of Addisyn, Avery, Abel, Abram, Anabelle, Arlo, Amelia; Tristian, and Micala. Though her physical presence is gone, her essence remains in every sunrise, every laugh that echoes, every moment of kindness shared in her name.

Ellie loved Ms. Rachel, Bluey, music and dancing, coloring, going on walks with her big sisters, Blue’s Clues, and listening to Taylor Swift records with her mama. Her laughter could light up a room, and her tender heart made everyone around her feel seen and loved. She was endlessly smart, deeply sweet, and full of wonder—a beautiful soul whose light will never dim, and will forever be mama’s baby.

Though her time here was heartbreakingly brief, Ellie’s life was radiant. She brought color, music, and laughter into every day, and she taught all who knew her the meaning of pure, unconditional love. Her spirit will live on in every song, every shared smile, and every moment of joy that she inspired. Ellie’s life, though brief, was full. She taught us how to love without condition, to find beauty in small things, and to live with open hearts. We will carry her with us, always—our sweetest dream, our brightest star, our forever love.

A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Caughman Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel. A visitation will follow the service.

The family welcomes all expressions of sympathy in remembrance of sweet Ellie, including flowers during this most difficult time.

Forever our sunshine, forever our Ellie Rose.

Carolyn M. Keck
October 2, 1949 – October 21, 2025

Carolyn Marie Keck, 76, of Leesville, South Carolina passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025. Born on October 2, 1949, in Maple Heights, Ohio, Carolyn’s greatest joy was her family and friends.
As a mother of three and a grandmother of seven, Carolyn was the heart of the Keck family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend known for her smile, kindness, and generosity. Her kitchen was the gathering place for dinners, holiday and birthday celebrations, baking with her grandchildren, and entertaining friends. Carolyn’s cooking was well known in her community. Everyone looked forward to enjoying her delicious appetizers, dinners, and baked goods. It was comfort food at its best.

Carolyn had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important date in the lives of everyone she cared about, never failing to send a card or make a call. Her homemade cakes and frosting were legendary, and she delighted in sharing her recipes.

Carolyn’s heart was most full when all her family was together at her home on Lake Murray. She delighted in the sounds of laughter, conversation, and joy echoing throughout a full house. She treasured the time playing (very competitive) card games around the table, movie nights snuggled on the couch, and boat rides in the evening sunset after one of her heartwarming meals.

During baseball season, Carolyn would be rooting for her beloved Atlanta Braves. She seldomly missed a game, staying up into the wee hours of the night at times. One of her highlights in life was being able to see the Braves win the World Series in 1995 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

Carolyn is survived by her husband John, their children, Allyson (Greg), Jay (Natalie), and Christopher (Kristen) and their families.

Lynn Benson
May 27, 1942 – October 19, 2025

James Lynn Benson, age 83, passed away on October 19, 2025, with his loving wife by his side, enveloped in the love of his girls. Lynn was born on May 27, 1942 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to William Randle Benson and Muriel Louise House Benson.

Lynn was a loving and devoted husband, a beloved father and grandfather. He was affectionately known as Papa Lynn, not just by family but also by friends, teammates, their children, and even caregivers.

Growing up in Charlotte, Lynn played football and baseball from 8th grade through graduation at Wingate College. He was the starting pitcher and star running back at Harding High and left fielder and running back at Wingate.

Following his graduation from Wingate in 1962, he continued his education at East Carolina University where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Upon graduation, Lynn began his career with Union Carbide as a salesman.

For the next 40 years, he worked in the tire industry, owning his first business in Columbia, SC. He held various sales and management positions, and ultimately retired from American Tire Distributors. Following his retirement, he purchased a tire supply business, Wise Tech Supply, and enjoyed growing that business and cultivating relationships with new and former customers. He fully retired in 2018.

Many of his associates have described Lynn as a legend in the tire business. He was highly respected in the industry for his work ethic, knowledge and "in just the way he took care of his people”, whether they were co-workers or customers.

Lynn showed his appreciation for his co-workers, employees, teams, family and friends with his love of hosting events, taking pride in grilling chicken wings, making Beaufort stew, hot dogs, and sometimes a great steak. He was a pro at pulling together annual reunions of his Wingate baseball and football teams, whether in the stands or out behind right field or the goal posts.

He was one of a kind and not just in the eyes of the Lord, but in the eyes of those who truly knew and loved him. This was evident in his volunteer work. He coached and mentored many athletes in marathons and triathlons. He raised funds for the Leukemia Society's Team in Training. Lynn served on the Bulldog Club Board of Directors at Wingate and was the Inaugural Team Ambassador for Football and Baseball. He helped everyone achieve their goal; it didn't matter if it was for a waitress from a New York City restaurant, a young man he met on a cruise ship, or one of his nurses from the Heart Hospital. He built their training plan.

In retirement, he enjoyed planning and traveling to events for his children and grandchildren. He was a master planner down to the last detail. He is best known for his GTTMRO trip. This was an 8,000 mile road trip around the USA. His goal was to "go til the money ran out", leaving his pockets empty, and holding only a bologna sandwich.

Lynn was private and humble. He did not allow himself to be the recipient of all he gave. Yet, he was the first to spring into action when he heard of anyone being sick, injured, hurting or in need.

Towards the end of his life, Lynn encountered many health challenges. He faced each of those challenges like he did everything else, with a fighting spirit.

His greatest pride was his love of his wife, daughters and granddaughters, his girls.

Lynn lived his life according to Acts 20:35 ..."there is more happiness in giving than in receiving."

Lynn is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Robin Taylor Benson; his loving daughters, Missie Mansfield (Russ) and Carol Ann Hood (Robbie); and his granddaughters, Anna Mansfield, Sarah Mansfield, Caroline Hood Briley (Ryan) and Cameron Hood.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for all the prayers, love, and support. A special thanks to all his caregivers.

There will be a service at the Gazebo at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC at 2:00 PM, November 5, 2025. A Celebration of Life follows from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Corley Mill House and Gardens, Lexington, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Lynn and Robin Benson Athletic Scholarship Fund at Wingate University, c/o Cristi Slape, P. O. Box 159, Wingate, NC 28174, or to the charity of choice.

Josefina "Josie" Bacani Valentine
April 19, 1951 – October 18, 2025

Josefina “Josie” Bacani Valentine passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, South Carolina, surrounded by her family. Her favorite song was “You Are My Sunshine,” and her loved ones sang it softly to her as she took her final breath—just as she had brought warmth and light to so many hearts throughout her life.

Josie was born in Jalung, Porac, Pampanga, Philippines, to Maria Malit Bacani and Felix Bacani. She was one of seven children—Resurreccion (deceased), Lourdes, Rogelio, Herminia, Irene, and Fernando (deceased)—and carried the love of her family and homeland with her always.

She made her home in Ladson, South Carolina, where she shared 44 devoted years of marriage with her late husband, William Valentine. She is survived by her son Robert Burrell Valentine and grandson Trevor Burrell Valentine, her daughter Jane Ann Valentine and son-in-law Sung Lee. Josie remained deeply close to her beloved family in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines, keeping their bonds strong through letters, long calls, care packages, and endless love.

A compassionate caregiver, Josie worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Lifecare of Charleston, where she was honored as an award-winning professional known for her patience, generosity, and gentle humor. Her devotion to others was not just her vocation—it was her gift.

At home, Josie found joy in gardening, cooking, sewing, and crocheting, filling every corner of her life with color and care. No one ever left her home without being offered something to eat and something to take home. She was the truest embodiment of welcome and love.

Josie will be remembered for her radiant smile, quiet strength, and boundless generosity. She was, and will always be, her family’s sunshine.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Josie’s caregivers and hospice team for their compassion and gentle care, and to her beloved dog, Sally, whose faithful companionship brought her comfort and joy every day.

Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories, photos, and messages of condolence on the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home website, where Josie’s light and love will continue to be celebrated.
