At ARH, care doesn’t stop with clinical treatment. It continues in the moments between.

This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we’re proud to celebrate the people who quietly show up for our communities to offer comfort, connection, and support when it’s needed most.

That’s what a day in the life of an ARH volunteer looks like. And the impact reaches far beyond a single moment.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back, there’s a place for you here.

NEWS RELEASE – ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities Awards $5,000 to Morgan County EMS

WEST LIBERTY, KY – The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities has awarded a $5,000 community grant to Morgan County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training & Education Institute, a division of Morgan County EMS, to strengthen emergency medical workforce development in Eastern Kentucky.

Based in West Liberty, the Training & Education Institute was established to address the growing shortage of qualified EMS providers across the region. By expanding access to training, delivering evidence-based instruction, and improving clinical competency through simulation, the institute plays a critical role in preparing the next generation of emergency medical professionals who serve Morgan County and surrounding communities.

The grant will support the purchase of a high-fidelity training manikin designed to enhance hands-on clinical simulation. Current training equipment limits the ability to conduct modern, scenario-based instruction in airway management, cardiac response, trauma care, and pediatric emergencies. The new manikin will allow students to practice complex, real-world emergency scenarios in a controlled environment, strengthening both skill development and confidence before entering the field.

“Access to highly trained emergency responders is fundamental to community health and safety,” said Whittney Allen, Director of Foundation Marketing and Communications for the ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities. “By investing in advanced clinical simulation, we are strengthening the skills and preparedness of the providers who are often the first point of care in a medical emergency. That directly supports safer outcomes for patients across our region.”

NEWS RELEASE – ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities Awards $5,000 to Pine Mountain Search and Rescue

WHITESBURG, KY – The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities has awarded a $5,000 Community Grant to Pine Mountain Search & Rescue to strengthen emergency response readiness across Letcher County and surrounding communities.
Serving over 21,000 residents, Pine Mountain Search and Rescue operates in some of the most rugged and remote terrain in Eastern Kentucky. Formed by local woodsmen, law enforcement officers, and first responders, the all-volunteer organization provides specialized search and rescue operations for individuals who become lost, injured, or stranded in wilderness areas. The team also plays a critical role during natural disasters, assisting with debris removal, supply distribution, shelter support, and emergency transportation when traditional response resources are limited or delayed.
This grant will allow for important equipment upgrades that enhance mission-critical communication, vehicle visibility, transportation reliability, and responder safety. Funding will provide updated radios, a 360-degree lighting system for the team’s primary response vehicle, replacement tires for response vehicles and the supply trailer, and updated technical rescue equipment including helmets, boots, gloves, and certified rescue belts necessary for high-risk operations such as establishing rappel lines. Together, these investments directly strengthen operational readiness and ensure the team can continue delivering safe and effective emergency response services.
“In a region where geography can slow traditional response times, Pine Mountain Search & Rescue is an essential partner. Providing them with reliable equipment strengthens our entire emergency response network and ultimately improves safety outcomes for the people we serve,” said Jamie Easterling, CEO of Whitesburg ARH.
