Next up in our series is Michael McGill. Michael serves as one of two new Philanthropy Officers with the ARH Foundation, where he supports fundraising and donor engagement efforts across the Cumberland Valley, Kentucky River and Big Sandy regions. He joined the foundation team in September 2025. Michael spent the first part of his career in higher education — teaching and serving as an administrator — before transitioning to the rural health field about eight years ago. His background in marketing and workforce development gives him a unique perspective on how partnerships and people power strong health systems. His favorite part of the job? Being out in our communities, having conversations and building relationships that support better health care for our region.

The food pantry will provide free, nutritious groceries and essential household items to college students experiencing food insecurity. The initiative is expected to support approximately 100–250 students and is focused on reducing food insecurity, improving academic persistence and completion, and promoting health and wellness so students can remain enrolled and focused on their educational goals.

“The Hazard Independent College Foundation is grateful for Appalachian Regional Healthcare’s continued partnership and support of Hazard Community and Technical College students,” said Jennifer Lindon, PhD, President and CEO of Hazard Community and Technical College. “The ARH Foundation’s monetary donation to the food pantries will help students feed their families and remain in college, ultimately leading students to program completion and rewarding careers.”

ARH NEWS RELEASE – ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities Partners with Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass to Support NICU Families

The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities has partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Bluegrass to provide comfort bags for families with infants receiving care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center and Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.

Both Highlands ARH and Hazard ARH offer Level II NICU services, providing specialized care for infants born moderately premature or with medical conditions requiring advanced monitoring and support beyond a standard newborn nursery. Level II NICUs support infants who need assistance with feeding, temperature regulation, and respiratory intervention, while also stabilizing newborns who may require transfer for higher-level care—helping families remain closer to home whenever possible.
