When you lose a spouse, you lose someone whose presence influenced your yearly plans as well as your daily details.

Their absence can make it easy to shy away from the routines and responsibilities you shared. You may worry that if you establish a new normal, you’ll be forgetting the life you built together. But acknowledging loss is an integral part of grief. What may feel like going through the motions is actually an important part of moving forward.

Following the loss of your spouse, give yourself a simple routine that allows time to reflect and grieve. Set new goals to work towards and keep in touch with friends and family. As you adjust, you’ll find yourself remembering your spouse in ways that honor the life you shared while embracing the one you now have.
