They conquered the Lexington IOP together, so they wanted their picture taken together. Congratulations to (clockwise from left)...

Eli - He has always taken a high-octane approach to everything in life. Now that he's channeling that energy and dynamism into his recovery--a "good, orderly direction"--there is no limit to what he can accomplish. Congratulations, Eli!

Ryan - He maintains his intelligent, no-nonsense cool even in tough situations that might make some people melt down. He's also a military vet who knows that actions speak louder than words in both recovery and in life. Congratulations, Ryan!

James - Bench press mind-boggling weight? Check. Whip up an absolutely 🔥 Southern-style breakfast? Check. Stride the path of sustained recovery, which is the hardest and most rewarding task there is? CHECK. Congratulations, James!

Gabby - Want to know how something really is? Just ask Gabby, who brings the kind of realness that can only come from within--and which her program of recovery makes even more powerful. In a world full of performers and pretenders, we need as many people like her as we can get. Congratulations, Gabby!

Kelly - Sometimes, you meet people in recovery who possess what I like to call the "eye of the tiger"--relentless focus, unwavering resilience, steadfast determination. Her eyes are positively ablaze with it. And with the help of her recovery program, there's no telling what she'll accomplish next. Congratulations, Kelly!

Several years ago, Earl Mason was a lost soul: incarcerated, broken, baffled by the cunning power of substance use disorder. About three years ago, he graduated the Shepherds House's Substance Abuse Program (SAP) at Boyle Co. Detention Center. Nowadays, he is the founder of a non-profit ministry called Operation Feed'em (link below). And today, he returned to the jail to share his testimony with the current men of the program--and brought his son, Noah, along with him.

Incarcerated men are often conditioned, by society and personal experience, to "bottle up" their feelings and never shed tears. But I'm not sure there was a dry eye in the room today as Earl delivered his message of hope, recovery, redemption, and love. POWERFUL.

Two men, two powerful stories: here's Frank "Junior" Evans with Dr. Stephen Loyd, whose story inspired Michael Keaton's character on the "Dopesick" series. If you know Junior, then you know his story is inspiring, too--so powerful, in fact, that he has been invited to speak in front of 5,000 people (🤯) at the 2026 Rx Summit in April.

Yesterday, the Shepherds House welcomed Dr. Stephen Loyd, Drug Czar of West Virginia and inspiration for the main character (portrayed by Michael Keaton) of the critically-acclaimed "Dopesick" series. We also welcomed Joshua J. Barker, the Director of Substance Abuse Prevention and Outreach for the West Virginia Attorney General's Office. Key themes: recovery, hope, and the expansion of the Shepherds House beyond the commonwealth of Kentucky.

🚨CONTEST ALERT!🚨 PHASE 3 EDITION 🚨 VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE PUMPKIN!

These men have reached Phase 3 of the Maxwelton long-term program, so they've already conquered some scary stuff: the fear of sobriety, the fear of success, the fear of losing their meeting sheets and having to restart their "90 meetings in 90 days" as a consequence. But can they carve pumpkins that are anything close to as scary as all that? You decide! Vote for your favorite pumpkin--the scariest, the silliest, the one that looks most like its carver, whatever criteria you prefer--by liking the picture!

The women of the substance abuse programs (SAP/SOAR) at Franklin County Jail created colorful masks: a powerful symbol in the world of recovery. As Amy, our program director, puts it: "In art therapy, we find ways to heal by expressing how what we hide behind our mask and what we show the world are two very different things."
