Congratulations to John for graduating the Lexington IOP! A lot of people arrive to treatment programs with a less-than-sunny attitude, grumbling and brooding for a while until they slowly start feeling a bit better. Not John! This guy has been been a dynamo of energy and optimism from the moment he walked through the door. His enthusiasm for recovery is contagious, and we're sure gonna miss him. John also understands that recovery is an action word, and that as long as he "walks the walk" consistently, the possibilities and hope are endless. Congratulations, John!

Huge congratulations to Shepherds House legends Sam and Marvin for celebrating 3 and 4 years (respectively) of continuous sobriety! Here's the thing: treatment programs are a great place to begin your recovery, but no treatment program or sober living house will keep you sober forever. These two men understand that, ultimately, you "can only keep it by giving it away"--and they give back like their lives depend on it, because they do. Proof of their effort and commitment? Many of the men in the group picture are part of the same sponsorship family.

Congratulations to Anita and RJ for graduating the Lexington IOP! There are tons of great things to say about these two; here are just a few:

Anita: She's a WARRIOR! Life will smack you with trials and tribulations no matter who you are, but those of us in recovery often face a whole 'nother level of terror, frustration, bewilderment and despair. Anita has battled through the kinds of obstacles and pain that would make a weaker person crumple up and fold. And now, she is finally stepping into the light of serenity and hope. Congratulations, Anita!

RJ: He, too, is a WARRIOR! Those of us in recovery talk a lot about how wonderful and amazing sobriety is--and justifiably so, because it is. But we also know how incredibly frustrating and difficult it can be, especially early on, and even more so when forces and misfortunes outside of our control make the journey extra challenging. To conquer this trial, you've gotta dial in your focus and maintain your cool--and RJ has done just that. This is a man who already knows how to win at the game of life. Now, he has the tools, knowledge and willingness to keep what he wins--and find peace in the process. Congratulations, RJ!

Congratulations to Aaron to graduating the Lexington IOP! One of the many cruelties of addiction is how it hijacks our greatest qualities and gifts and buries them under an anguish so deep that we forget who we truly are. One of the many miracles of recovery is watching those very same gifts claw their way back to the surface and blossom, brighter and more electric than ever before. Aaron himself is stepping into sunlight, and you can see it not only in his rekindled inner fire but in his spectacular art (I tried to convince him to let me post a picture of one of his drawings, but I think he wants to wait a little longer before unleashing them onto the world). Congratulations, Aaron!
