Welcome to HealthFirst Bluegrass: your all-in-one health home with 16 locations in Lexington. We accept Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance.

Offering medical, women’s health, pediatrics, behavioral, dental & pharmacies. HealthFirst Bluegrass offers quality medical, dental, pharmacy and support services for all members of the family, from newborns to elderly patients, and all ages in between. To ensure continuation of care for our patients, HealthFirst Bluegrass encourages prompt referral and consultation with private Physicians and Public Health specialists. HealthFirst Bluegrass is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides affordable healthcare for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Uninsured patients’ fees for services provided are based on the patient’s household income and family size in accordance with our sliding fee schedule. Funding is made possible by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). To make an appointment with one of our healthcare Providers, please call (859) 288-2425. 📢 Important Medicaid Update: HB2

HB2, the Kentucky Medicaid Reform Act, proposes major changes to Kentucky’s Medicaid program, which provides coverage for roughly 1 in 3 Kentuckians. While some provisions aim to improve aspects of the system, parts of the bill go beyond federal requirements in ways that could impact eligibility, increase paperwork, add new copays, and create additional barriers to care.

As currently written, HB2 may:

• Increase administrative paperwork and more frequent eligibility checks
• Create new out-of-pocket costs for certain services
• Lead to avoidable coverage disruptions
• Strain caseworker capacity and slow processing times

These changes could affect children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families across Kentucky.

Legislators are actively discussing revisions to HB2. Now is the time to make your voice heard.

📞 Call the Legislative Research Commission Message Line at (800) 372-7181 and ask lawmakers to take a careful approach to Medicaid reforms that impact eligibility, enrollment, and affordability.

Community health centers in the United States have roots that many people may not know about, and those roots trace back to Africa.

In the 1940s, two American physicians, Dr. H. Jack Geiger and Dr. Count Gibson, studied a revolutionary model of care in Pholela, South Africa, developed by Dr. Sidney Kark and his wife, Dr. Emily Kark. This model did something different: it treated health by looking beyond illness and addressing the conditions that cause it — poverty, nutrition, housing, education, and access to care.

This approach, called community-oriented primary care, focused on meeting people where they are, understanding the needs of the whole community, and removing barriers to health.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor not only the leaders who shaped history here at home, but also the global contributions that continue to impact how care is delivered in our communities today.

This history is woven into the mission of every community health center: care that is compassionate, inclusive, and rooted in community.
