this week is Child Passenger Safety Week.

every parent thinks it won’t happen to them.
but car crashes are one of the leading cause of death for kids in the united states.

and the truth is, nearly half of all car seats are used incorrectly.
even when we try our best.

a CPST will tell you:
✨ rear-facing is 5x safer for children under age 2
✨ kids should ride rear-facing until at least age 2 (and ideally until they max out the seat’s height/weight limit)
✨ harness straps should be snug-no slack, no twists
✨ chest clip should be at armpit level
✨ kids should ride in the back seat until at least age 13
✨ bulky coats can compress in a crash, leaving straps too loose
✨ the seat should move less than 1 inch side-to-side at the belt path
✨ car seats expire (usually 6–10 years) and should never be used after a crash
✨ keep kids in a harness until they reach the seat’s limits-boosters are for later
✨ in a booster, the lap belt must sit low on the hips, and the shoulder belt should cross the middle of the chest

statistics remind us why it matters:
✔️ properly used car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers
✔️ “just a short trip” is when most crashes happen
✔️ we don’t get to choose the moment we’re hit
✔️ seconds matter, and so does preparation

our babies are worth the extra two minutes.
they’re worth slowing down.
they’re worth doing it right.

because nothing matters more than bringing them home safe.
