I wanted to share a poem I wrote that was inspired by when I was flying home from Tampa, Florida and looked out the window of the plane and felt a deep sense of connection to the stars in the sky and constellation of city lights below.
I hope you like it and resonate with how deeply connected we are to one another.
The Light
When night drapes her velvet shawl
across the shoulders of the sky,
the starry constellations begin awakening
their place in the world.
We look up in wonder…..
tracing the luminous threads
of distant suns, moon and constellations ~
Orion lifting his bow,
Ursa Major guarding the north,
each star a pulsing rhythm
in the great cosmic body of our universe.
Like Peter Pan ~ we rise above the clouds in quiet flight,
to gain new perspectives as we soften our gaze to the landscape below,
We see the magic as the Earth glimmers.
Streetlights shimmer like constellations of their own,
golden energies flowing through sleeping cities,
headlights tracing prayers along highways,
porch lamps glowing like watchful guardians
tending to our dreams.
It is as if the heavens leaned closer
and whispered their prayers
into the blueprint of our becoming.
Across rivers, lakes, mountains and oceans near and far,
We hear prayers being spoken in unfamiliar melodies,
and we feel the warmth of hearts around us
carrying the stories of their people.
In crowded markets and quiet temples,
beneath cathedral domes and desert skies,
we recognize something sacred ~
We are constellations in motion,
each of us a star ~
whose smallest acts of kindness
casts a beam of light across the dark.
One smile is universal ~
One hug needs no translation ~
One gentle word crosses time and space ~
One act of kindness needs no passport
to spark a light that travels farther than we will ever know.
Look closely at the map of the world at night ~
you will see it:
a glowing web of connection,
threads of light weaving from continent to continent,
heart to heart,
soul to soul.
No star shines alone.
No city glows in isolation.
No soul beats without resonance of another soul.
When we choose to shine our light in the smallest of ways,
we become and create the constellations
of a million beautiful stars…
