It was a GREAT DAY to be a part of LAFY!

Our Liberty High FRESH students did a great job presenting their Buckle Up Phone Down program to a room full of professionals at the MoDot meeting in Lee's Summit. Their club was awarded a check from MoDOT to continue their efforts to keep kids safe. We are sure proud of this group of students!

Our LMS FRESH club has been hard at work planning and rolling out their annual Dude Be Nice program. Dude Be Nice focuses on sharing and encouraging healthy choices and positive coping strategies with their middle school peers through engaging activities every day this week. Way to go LMS!

We also had a very productive LAFY meeting today. We are excited to continue our Tuned In Series and are making our way around LPS PTA's to spread the word to 5th and 6th grade parents. Our Meaningful Meals initiative is set for March. We're in the process of connecting with local restaurants to educate parents/guardians/kids how important it is to connect during a meal. We look forward to these partnerships that we know will improve resilience in our youth through small acts of connection. Thank you to all who joined us today!

🏈 Parents, here’s a reminder to update your parenting playbook!
💪 When we know better, we do better, so take time to talk to your teen about your firm expectations against underage drinking regularly.
🧠 Explain to them that underage drinking is illegal because not only is it harmful to their developing brains, it could also lead to lifelong addiction.
🤔 Unsure of how to talk to your child about alcohol?

📢 Parents—there’s a new substance showing up in the places our teens already visit, and many of us have never heard of it.
⚠️ Kratom and 7-OH are often marketed in gas stations, v**e shops, and online in bright packaging as “natural” or “herbal,” but they can act like powerful opioids and carry real risks—especially for youth.
👉 Up has put together a short, straightforward Insight to help parents understand what these substances are, why they’re dangerous, and how to talk with teens about them.
➡️ Read and considering sharing this new Insight here: ParentUpKC.com/WPSK-K7OH

👍 By choosing not to provide alcohol to your teen, you are in the vast majority of Northland parents!
⚠️ Unfortunately, there’s still a small percentage of parents who provide alcohol or allow underage drinking. It can be a frustrating and confusing situation to navigate if you learn an adult is putting teens at risk.
➡️ Visit our website to learn what you can do when other adults provide alcohol to minors, including how to use our Parent Warning Letter resource.
