At 44, Sam was living an active, independent life when a spinal abscess ruptured leaving him a quadriplegic. After urgent surgery and a difficult hospital stay, Sam arrived at Encompass Health unable to walk or care for himself.

In less than a month, through incredible determination and the support of our therapy team, Sam became independent in self-care, began walking with assistive devices and even climbed stairs to re-enter his home.

“The moment that gave me hope was when I walked with the walker for the first time. I knew I could succeed," he said.

We’re proud of your progress, Sam, and honored to be part of your journey.

After a stroke, Elidio was admitted to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute of Libertyville. The stroke left him unable to stand, move the left side of his body and made speaking and eating difficult.

With determination and the support of his therapy team, Elidio made remarkable progress. By the time he was discharged, he could chew his food, speak clearly, walk with assistance — and even dance with his wife. Elidio gave a heartfelt shoutout to many of his therapists, calling them “angels on earth.”

We’re honored to have helped you return to the music and moments that matter, Elidio!

After falling and fracturing his head and spine, Robert came to our hospital for rehabilitation. Before his fall, Robert was independent and active with his family. He loved dancing with his wife and was looking forward to dancing with his daughter at her upcoming wedding.

Upon arrival, Robert required two people to help him get out of a bed and into a chair. After his stay with us, he was able to make those transfer by himself. He could also walk with the help of one person and dress himself using techniques taught to him by his therapy team.

“I absolutely recommend this place," Robert said. "The therapy is top notch. If you do what they tell you, you will get better!”

Thank you for trusting us with your care, Robert!

These specialized tools improve alignment, reduce pain and enhance movement. Learn how we integrate orthotics into personalized care plans to help patients regain their independence.
