Today marks the last day for our winter intern, Haileigh! She has been with us for the past 8 weeks, and we’ve truly enjoyed having her as part of the team.
We are sad to see her go, but we wish her the very best in her future endeavors. 💙
Things Haileigh learned at PEC
⁃ Performing point-of-care testing (Covid-19, flu, strep, glucose tests)
⁃ Assisting with EKGs and learned how to read the basic cardiac rhythm strips
⁃ Assisting with or observing injections and understanding common drug uses/dosages
⁃ Observing the patient triage workflow and intake process
⁃ Shadowed provider-patient interactions
⁃ Operating and understanding lab machines (Sophia analyzer, Cepheid GeneXpert, CBC Analyzers and Blood Chemistry Analyzers)
⁃ Running control checks, understanding lab quality assurance
⁃ Interpreting basic lab values and recognizing critical results
⁃ Practiced therapeutic communication and empathy
⁃ Understanding clinical reasoning and decision-making
⁃ Differentiating between urgent and non-urgent conditions
