Part of my work involves monitoring how AI is being used in healthcare. The rapid gains in model capability are transforming what is possible for people with complex and multi system medical issues. In most clinical environments, care is divided by specialty, which means that each clinician focuses on a single part of the body and may not be as well trained in complex issus that span multiple systems. AI can integrate information across these medical siloes, and the recent improvements in accuracy and lower rates of hallucination make this especially powerful for individuals who are trying to make sense of complex or unusual symptoms. I use Open Evidence, an AI platform for healthcare professionals and find it exceptionally helpful.

“In healthcare, GPT-5 reduces hallucinations to just 1.6% on the HealthBench test. This greatly outperforms GPT-4o at 12.9% and o3 at 15.8%”

OpenEvidence developed a new AI system that is the first AI in histor to score 100% on the medical licensing exam. It accurately answers each question + teaches the reasoning behind each answer, providing accurate references using gold-standard sources of medical knowledge.

Knowledge-based assessments remain a foundation of medical education. However, leveraging these resources for learning requires detailed and verifiable feedback.

Shifting the way healthcare practitioners do their work is something that’s also of interest to Dr. Tanya Gamby, director of health and wellness at Human Systems: “AI will enable thinking outside of our silos and our training,” she said. “It may enable opportunities to think across disciplines and fields in a way that has not been possible in the past.”

Gamby acknowledged the elephant in the room: AI will drastically change healthcare. But instead of fearing that change, she shared with participants that facing it head on — and together — is the way to go.

“AI will rapidly change the way that people practice, interpret data and interact with patients,” she said. “Thinking across systems about how to prepare for this change will be important for all sectors.”

Your future. Your terms. See why thousands choose SNHU.
