We are back on the road this week celebrating the leaders who make our member communities stronger every day.

This year, we are expanding how we celebrate. While some honorees will be recognized at our Annual Conference, we are also visiting member communities to bring these awards directly to the teams and environments where their impact is felt most.

Taking that celebration to Winston-Salem, President and CEO Tom Akins visited ThriveMore to surprise Kevin Cook, Chief Development Officer, with a 2026 Excellence in Leadership Award.

Kevin’s leadership has nearly doubled end-of-year giving, expanding ThriveMore's ability to serve residents in meaningful ways. His leadership of the EverTogether Residence campaign, now approaching its $2 million goal, reflects not only strong results but his ability to inspire confidence, build relationships, and rally a community around a shared vision.

Thank you for your leadership, and congratulations to Kevin and ThriveMore!

We are excited to announce that our Medicine from the Heart program has expanded!

We have partnered with Hogan’s Pharmacy in Lillington to offer prescription copay coverage for seniors in need. This new location was possible through a partnership with Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, plus generous donations from people like you.

In its first month of operation at the new pharmacy, the program supported nine people with 35 prescriptions for a total of $492.12.

Want to make a difference in the lives of seniors in need in North Carolina? Give to the Medicine from the Heart program — one hundred percent of funds pay for prescription copays.

This is just one of the many ways that our organization supports older adults in North Carolina through our Baptist Retirement Homes Foundation.

March kicked off our celebration of the 75th anniversary of ThriveMore -- but we're keeping the momentum going for our entire anniversary year.

Team members all received a special 75th anniversary shirt to start things off -- Taylor Glen team member Cheresa Williams snapped these pics on campus earlier this month.

We've got a message for our ThriveMore team members: we'd love you to wear your 75th anniversary shirt beyond the walls of our campuses too. We want to see where these shirts travel this year! Take a photo of yourself out and about (the farther the better) in your shirt and send it to jjones@thrivemorenc.org to be featured on our socials.

Big questions deserve thoughtful answers. And that's especially true for our newest ThriveMore community coming in 2030 in New Bern near the North Carolina coast.

In a recent Q&A panel, the ThriveMore leadership team sat down to talk openly about Brice Pointe — why it matters, what makes it different and how it reflects our long-term commitment to serving older adults in meaningful ways. From vision to values, this conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at the leadership and intentional planning shaping New Bern’s first Life Plan Community.

Take a few minutes to watch and hear directly from the team bringing Brice Pointe to life.

Every organization has an origin story — but not every story is rooted so deeply in faith, sacrifice, and personal conviction.

As part of ThriveMore’s 75th‑anniversary reflection, we recently had the privilege of honoring Jim Hayes, the first leader of what was then known as Baptist Homes for the Aging. His family — daughter Phyllis and grandchildren Ed and Virginia — shared memories that bring those early days vividly to life.

Jim Hayes stepped into leadership at a time when there was no roadmap and no funding. After serving as a pastor in Winston‑Salem, Jim prayed over the call to lead this new effort — and then left his church to devote himself fully to building a ministry focused on caring for older adults.

“He felt an obligation as a Christian and a Baptist minister that you had to take care of your older folks,” Ed shared.

What stands out most in these stories isn’t recognition or legacy for its own sake — it’s purpose. Jim Hayes wasn’t trying to build an institution. He was answering a calling. And more than 75 years later, that same purpose continues to guide ThriveMore.

As we celebrate where we are today, we’re grateful for leaders like Jim Hayes — and for families willing to share the stories that remind us why this work began in the first place.

Because names may change. Campuses may grow.

But a mission grounded in faith, dignity, and care endures.
