The revision of the HepB vaccine recommendation has set us back three decades. In a postive way that is!!! Prior to these recommendations, the prevalence of autism, seizures, eczema, allergies, delayed speech, delayed learning, digestive issues, and a long list of chronic issues in children was substantially lower. It is crucial to recognize that Hepatitis B is a blood-borne disease that newborns are unlikely to contract unless the mother is infected, and even then, screening and treatment are available. As such, it is not a newborn emergency. I advocate for a return to the previous approach, where doctors obtained permission before administering aluminum-loaded shots to day-old babies, and informed consent genuinely meant something. I am pleased that the recommendation has been revised, and I look forward to more revisions!! Big win!! 🙌
