Parent Mentor -Allen County Educational Service Center The Parent Mentor Program is grant funded by The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. What does the Parent Mentor do?

It provides fee support and resources to families who have children with disabilities. Your Parent Mentor provides information and support to families about special education issues and assists school districts in receiving perspectives and input from special needs families. Services include:
- guiding families through the special education process;
- helping families understand their rights and r

esponsibilities;
- providing resources and information to local school districts;
- providing resources and information to families, including information on educational laws and programming in their school districts;
- assisting families in engaging community resources;
- attending IEP meetings and other meetings at the request of the parent or school staff;
- provides and collaborates with other agencies to provide information sessions and workshops for both families and professionals;
- supports collaboration between families, community and schools to benefit students with disabilities.

Gauging the level of Interest...

I am considering starting a Parent Chat at the Lima Public Library for Special Needs Families. This would be a supporting group where caregivers could come to chat, share ideas and resources and listen to an occasional area agency. If you are interested, could you please hit the like button? Now Planning for Our 2026–2027 Season! Something new is coming to Lyn’s Academy of Dance. 💜

Lyn’s Academy of Dance is working on adding a new all abilities, inclusive dance class designed for students who will thrive in a more adaptive learning environment.

👦🏼 Open to: Students of all abilities Kindergarten–6th grade
🩰 Styles: Ballet, Jazz, Creative Movement, Tumbling Basics
⏱ Length: 45-minute weekly class during our September 2026-May 2027 season
🌟 Includes participation in our Spring Recital

Our goal is to create a space where every dancer feels confident, supported, and successful. Miss Lyn is trained in supportive and inclusive teaching strategies through Very Special Arts/Arts Possible Ohio.

The Light Bulb Lab is a FREE hands-on STEM activity day at the HUB at Central District the second Saturday of each month. The monthly event is sponsored by Allen County Educational Service Center, Lima Area Chamber Foundation, Apollo Career Center, and Central District and various other entities. The next event is this coming Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 - 1:00. We will explore a different Career Pathway each month. April is Technology Month with stations for robotics, laser etchers and graphic design. Hope to see you there!

The Board is hosting a Supporting Sibs workshop on May 8! Supporting Sibs provides peer support and information for young brothers and sisters to someone with an intellectual or developmental disability. Designed for siblings between 6 and 12 years old, attendees will have fun, play games, talk about their experiences and meet other siblings.
