The Healing Shack

The Healing Shack The Healing Shack is a sanctuary where kind-hearted beings gather and connect. 🌱 The Healing Shack is the fruition of a dream of mine.

I dreamed of having a place where people could gather and share, and feel safe and un-judged. That is exactly what the Healing Shack embodies. The name happened while I was trying to think of something clever. From the Jasper stones thrown on the Earth below the floor to the vaulted roof, and through the guardian pines, the Healing Shack is a space for love and kindness and open expression of self

for all well-intentioned visitors. What would you like to see happening at the Shack? Let me know your ideas... If it follows the true intention and purpose of the dream, we will find a way to make it happen. Located in the woods near the North Branch of the Turkey river in rural Lime Springs, Iowa. I look forward to seeing you at the next Healing Shack event. ♥

“Doth mine eyes deceive me?” (Shakespeare)
Yes, they probably do. Over and over every single day. Unless you’re looking at it in the natural world- in front of your face- it’s hard to know what is true and what isn’t anymore. It’s pretty obvious if you know me, I created the first image with AI this morning. But the second image... that’s real life. That’s me in my pjs, not yet strong enough in my core to really put my hips above my shoulders and not being confident enough to even TRY a handstand anywhere away from a wall or a spotter (especially on some rocks like ‘pretend me’ in the photo). I don’t bring this forward to throw stones at people who CAN do poses like this (ie: poses that take a lot of time and practice to get into), because good for them! (I DO cringe a bit when they think we need to see their bare ass while they’re doing it, unless the goal is actually to show us their ass and not share a sacred practice like yoga? Anyway, I digress.) I bring this forward to remind you to use much discernment (in general), but be thoughtful when you’re looking for a good yoga teacher, healing arts practitioner, etc. People can make themselves look AND sound pretty freaking knowledgable, but you might be going down a very shallow rabbit hole. It’s important to be who you are and express yourself authentically, but be mindful of what you’re putting out there for people and of what is true and what isn’t. And definitely be mindful of what you’re taking in. I promise to always keep it real for you. Jammies and all. xoxoxo

Look closer. We never ever know all that someone might be dealing with. These are only a few of the things I’ve heard from students over the years. The list doesn’t stop here. Yoga can help us stay in touch with ourselves. Yoga in this community hopes to make sure you feel safe doing that. Go heavy on the compassion out there, friends. 💕
